Best Cordura Horizontal Belt Sheath?

Can anyone recommend a high-quality horizontal belt sheath made from cordura or other nylon-type fabric that will fit a large folder (Benchmade 710)? All of the "company" sheathes I've tried seem to be exactly the same, made by some third party. These are all built of a qualited nylon fabric that unravels into fuzzyness after a few months of regular wear.

The Sebenza sheath I got from CRK is almost exactly what I want, except that the snap closure scratches up the finish on my knives. If I could get that exact sheath with a velcro closure I would be delighted.

I also have heavy-duty sheathes from Eagle and Blackhawk, but they have open velcro loops to hold them to the belt and they tend to stick out a lot more than sheathes with simple pull-through loops.

Someone must make the sheath I want. Can anyone give me some recommendations?

Bob,
I have a few made by Uncle Mikes called the side kick and I really like them. They have velcro closures and can be worn horizontal or vertically.I think they are made in the USA and are even well priced in Canada.A folder with a 3.75" blade fits good in them.

You might want try either SOE(Speicial Operations Equipment) or TripleAughtDesign. I have not tried these personaly, but I asked the samething in a similar thread, and some people highly recommend them. I ahve the same Eagle sheath(but I use mine for vertical carry) for over 6 years and use it daily fro my EDC.

Give those two a try, they came highly recommended.

The Benchmade Soft Sheath is pretty good and meets your description. I use a TAD-OS from tripleaughtdesign.com , but it has the velcro loops as you described.

When I want to carry my BM 710HS in a sheath instead of using the clip I use my Microtech LCC sheath. It accomodates the 710HS perfectly and can be used for horizonal belt carry.

Thank you for all the suggestions! The sheaths I've had unravel on me are ones Benchmade sells, so those won't work, but several of the others sound promising.

WrayH: Special thanks for suggesting the LCC sheath from Microtech. I have one of those lying around that I had forgotten about. Looks like that will solve my problem very nicely!

Glad to help. Hope that you will be as pleased with the use of the MT sheath as I have been.

My vote is for the TAD from TripleAughtDesign. I wear Docker style pants a lot and find this is the best way to carry a big folder with slacks. The TAD is so strong I once ripped the belt loops out of my pants when I snagged my TAD on a safe drawer. The velcro never gave, just the pants. Now that's strong! I never worry about losing one of my prized knives with this rig. The added bonus is that it actually looks like one of the horizontal cell phone holders ;) Regards. -Rick

Their sheaths would be perfect for me, except that my regular belt is 1-1/2" wide and their web site indicates that their sheathes will only fit a 1-1/4" belt horizontally. So close...

I use this Timberline sheath that I got from the Knifecenter. It can be seen here:

This sheath is designed for both horizontal and vertical carry. They also make a smaller sheath. I have been carrying my Leatherman Pulse in the smaller one for quite some time. It has held up very well. no fraying whatsoever.

bquinlan: I have 3 of the sheaths from Brigade Quartermasters. They will all fit horizonally on your width belt. Also the belt loops for horizontal fit are all velcro so they can be adjusted. DON'T WORRY. THEY WILL EASILY FIT A 1 1/2" BELT.

SPEC-OPS brand offers a heavy duty sheath designed for vertical or horizontal carry. You can get them in single or double configurations in black or olive drab.
