I've decided to finally graduate from razor blades and scissors to a proper leather cutting/crafting knife. I'd rather not spend an arm in a leg, but more importantly, I don't want a cheap tool that that won't get the job done. What knives blades are you guys using out there? Any favorites you would recommend?

I use roundknives of my own make. I don't make roundknives anymore as they kept trying to kill me. They jump right off the grinder and slice ya in the ribcage.

Mediocre roundknives are relatively inexpensive, good ones are relatively expensive.

Heard good things about the Weaver Master Tools roundknife, Leather Wranglers and Knipschield knives. Thats not in any particular order btw. Here's what to look for: thinness of stock. I ground mine out of .040 stock. I've seen some really thick ones out there and you will spend more time sarpening and not cutting. A thick roundknife does not perform.

Ha Dave cracked me up there. I contacted Dave the other day about getting him to make me one and he told me the same thing. He referred me to another member here. Diomedes is his user name. He made me a small round knife that looks great and cuts even better. You might give him a holler.

Yep check with Jason too D Diomedes . I'd forgot about him.

Thanks for the tag duramax duramax I've made one for myself and a couple for friends but don't make them on a regular basis. I'm with Dave, they're the Murder Hornets of the knife world, that 180 degrees of edge makes you're toes pucker.

Yeah I literally had a shirt that had two slices right across the ribcage. And I'd even stand to the side while grinding them! There's definitely a market for them if you wanna build em. What steel ya using?

Yeah they'll bite you for sure. I used 52100 on mine, started out with .050 stock and took your advice and thinned them out below .040, cuts really well.

Scott Davidson of SolidRockKnives.com (also on Facebook) makes knives for leatherworkers and saddle makers and the farrier trade.. he has a video on facebook cutting a 15 ounce piece of leather...

The knives in this thread are incredible. Thank you for showing what is possible. Once the fantasy is over I grab my Weaver Master round knife and get to work. Once I start working I don't miss them. In my opinion Osbournes come very rough and dull. The weaver I use came smooth and shiny with an even and sharp bevil.

The Osbourne have a rat tail or tapered tang so it's easy to modify handle. Weavers is a wide full tang.
