I have a Kimber TLII 1911, A Glock 23, and an XD 4" .45. I really want a Double action/ Single Action Pistol, I just dont know what I want, I love Sigs and HK's what do you guys think?

It all depends on what you want it for. The H&K are nice but are too large to CCW purposes. Same can be said for the Steyr GB even tho I always liked that handgun. For carry it would be tough to beat some of the small S&W handguns, the 669 for example. For that matter I have always regretted selling my nickel model 39...lol. If you don't mind larger the 59 series always worked and shot well. You might also look at some of the Sigs available.

There are so many choices, I would visit a large gun store and handle them all, shoot them if available as rentals, then make your choice.

My favorite pistol is the HK USP. It fits perfectly in my big hands and the way it is overbuilt inspires confidence. It is not slim or small so if you are built like a rail and plan on carrying it, well, I would suggest a hawaiin shirt or a vest to conceal it.

That being said, I no longer have one. My current auto is a Glock 17. I would have loved to pick up a new HK but spending an extra 300 bucks at that time was not in the cards.

It all depends

What he said.

I like current H&K's for certain applications, but don't discount the older single stack models for concealed carry (PSP/P7m8 types).

I just bought a 59 (as referenced) for training use (a 5906 actually). They can be picked up very inexpensively and due to their stainless steel heft- they are a delight to shoot.

SW39's... you're going to have to shop for, but don't forget their less in-demand identical DNA twins at a substantial savings. These can be found in alloy, steel, and stainless steel. They are all slim in profile, but the weight in SS (that's the 6 designation in the 639 or 3906) can be a burden for CC.

Bargains abound on the SW99. The newer Walther PPS in 40cal. is a relatively unknown but perfect CC gun.

I bought one of the first ones to hit the US in 40S&W, didn't own it 2 weeks before it detonated. While not the fault of the gun it made me leery of all polymer framed handguns. I have had two guns go boom in my hand. First was a 1911 that we think fired slightly out of battery. Hand was sore, alloy frame cracked, and magazine was destroyed but no injuries. The second boom was my USP. This was a fault of the powder company that quickly found out the recommended loads for a powder where not good at all. The polymer frame did not contain the explosion and it took some time for may hand to heal. The cut in my palm kept me from shooting till it healed, the pics are pre-stitches. Since then I have shied away from the plastic guns. You can see my H&K and hands here as well as find out just what caused the blow up.

S&W's have one key feature the other DA autos do not: a short trigger reset.

The 39's always pinched my trigger finger between the back of the trigger and frame and would probably do the same to yours, so check that out.

The 5906 kicks very little. The 415 or 410 have alloy frames if the weight is an issue.

One of the better carry guns in the S&W line is the 3913. It shoots well, too. I even made IDPA "Master" with my 3914 (blue instead of stainless), outshooting all the full-size guns there!

HK's are over priced. If you get a Sig, get one with the "SRT," or "short reset trigger." It makes a big difference.

Let us know what you get.

Didn't know that was an option with Sig, the long reset was always my objection to them.

I have a USP Compact. All of my other handguns were sold shortly thereafter. I'm thin, and have no problem keeping it hidden IWB.

Go to a local range that rents pistols and try out a few. Find out for yourself which one feels and shoots better in YOUR hands. That's the one you should buy. By the way, I have a Kimber Ultra Carry that I love. One of the most accurate pistols that I've ever owned and it conceals like a dream.:)

I have never really liked S&W handguns, what do I base this on? I really don't know to be honest never rember picking one up, never shot one, never even given one a second look in a display case. I know many guys who like like them and I have never really heard anything bad about them, well at least not enough to dislike their whole hangun line(I'm not revolver fan either). With this all said, my AR is a S&W M&P-15 which is my baby and I LOVE it so I don't know.

I had a pair of the S&W 4516 in .45 ACP a few years back, and I highly recomend them.

I really like the Sig 220, it is probably my favorite DA/SA. I also really like the new HK45, I have fired a Walther P99 and I was very impressed with it. Like it has previously been stated go to the range and try a few models out.

I prefer external hammers and DA/SA pistols. I like the idea of being able to put the hammer down manually.

Ruger P series (at least the older ones) are DA/SA. The quality may surprise you, I like my P97 a lot. Everybody's talked about the Sig's.

Check out the Beretta's too. The mod 92.

I had forgotten about the CZs despite the fact I carried a CZ-75 for several years, excellent handguns. And there is a 22 conversion available....bonus!

Definetely try to shoot whichever ones you like before ya buy...
I personally don't like DA/SA pistols. I never bought into the theory that it helps eliminate the potential for a negligent premature first shot..
I guess in theory it makes sense.
To me it is just one more thing mechanically to go haywire, especially on a carry gun.
I bought a SIG 45 about 4 years ago. I took it to the range and put 300 rounds through it, Loaded it up and headed to the local gun shop and traded it in on another 1911....
I don't like long trigger pulls unless its on a revolver. To many years of 1911's I guess.
I took the gun apart to see what makes the Sig tick before shooting it. Gotta say in all fairness, the machining and quality of the SIG is very high. So it wasn't a fault of the gun, it was me personally....

Sorry about the rambling, just took a couple pain pills

Sig P229 here. It's my favorite pistol. But it's a bit fat for CCW, unless I'm wearing bulky sweatshirts or a coat.
