Broke the very end of the tip off the blurple PM2 in S-110v. Was cutting a plastic wire tie that was around some metal. Probably not the best use of that blade, but I wouldn’t call it outright abuse. I don’t have experience on the other blade.

Crucible Industries's data sheet on S110V states that it is both significantly more abrasion resistant and corrosion resistant than S90V.

If working edge retention is your game, S110V is your name. (I came up with that one all by myself lol)

The CATRA testing recently done disagrees:

FWIW, I asked because I've never noticed any difference between the two when sharpening.

I'm curious, at what is S110V better than S90V?
It's 20 V's better! Duh...

OP, the 940-1 is a better EDC IMO. I own 2 PM2's, but carry my 940-1 more often. It's lighter, slimmer, and has more cutting edge. I have several Benchmades and not 1 of my omega springs have broken.

People need to appreciate and experience s110v while they can. It's a very exotic steel, and once Spyderco stops using it, you probably won't see it again.

Touché, but Cedric and Ada, and Ankerson agree!

I noticed that CATRA thing, too. Dunno what's up with that, other
than perhaps different blade geometry? I haven't read into that test too harshly yet.

Ankerson's testing shows that thickness behind the edge has a profound effect, which is something the PM2 is certainly better than the 940 at. But realistically, the difference between S90V and S110V isn't great enough to distinguish through casual use. Good points made!

I think one question here should sort this out. Why is the 940 not avaliable in blurple, no matter what score system once you introduce blurple to one side there is always a clear winner...

Also pm2 I have found to be a better slicer and a bit thinner behind the edge, 940 has better action and fidget ability but when the pm2 locks up something just feels right in how snappy it is along with that precious precious blurple

I have several 940's, but no 940-1 as I refuse to pay $370 CAD for a pocket knife. I also have an all black PM2 in s30v steel. Not taking into account the steel, as that is the least important in my opinion, I much prefer the 940. But then again, I've never been a fan of the huge hole that makes a 3 1/2" blade knife far too large in the pocket than it needs to be.

Now don't get me wrong, you very likely will love the PM2, so if you already have the 940-1, then go ahead and buy the PM2 (CERB maybe?) and compare. If you find that you like one more than the other and want to unload the loser, you probably will find lots of potential buyers.

edit: however, I am carrying my PM 2 today, so what do I know!.

I have a few 940, a PM2 and a PM3 in S110V Burple.

Personally, I would prefer the 940 over the PM2 mainly because of the handle. Steel and blade geometry is half the story, but to me, handle is the other half of the story. I love the PM series, but their handle are just not comfortable when you need to exert more force to cut for longer period of time.

Oh and another thing, as far as Omega's go, I broke the clip side spring on two separate 940's. Since I live in a socialist country that has border pirates who like to steal totally legal items at the border, I have made several spare sets (I do have a few assorted BM's) so I am covered if anymore should break. However, I also did get BM to send me out replacements for the above mentioned reason, so since you are in Montreal, you are covered there as well.

If the spring ever broke, i was thinking to buy some on Etsy. Asking BM completely slipped my mind.

Usually it is Benchmade's policy to not send out spare omega springs. So it's really cool to hear that they're aware of the Canadian Border thieves.... er Patrol. That they are willing to make an exception and go that little extra mile to help avoid confiscation shows what good customer service is about.
Servicing the customer.

I did that when both Omega springs had broken in my 531.
I finally got them installed but,
it took much more fiddling than any time I ever assembled a BM with stock springs. Not really sure why.

They seem to be stiffer than stock springs but, maybe that is my imagination because I ran with only one spring for ages.

I've owned several of both models and once had an extensive PM2 collection...However, I NEVER carried
any PM2 for any real period of time. S110V has been labeled as a bit brittle by some unhappy users.
I prefer S90V as a steel, and just got my second 940 with special blade-steel...the first one had 20CV.
Certainly, it is lighter than the Spydie, but it performs well.
Both are excellent...

That 20cv 940 blade from a special edition is the best 940 blade there is. Put the 20CV blade in the CF scales. Add the Bugouts mini deep carry clip (it is lighter and works great) and you have a 2 1/4 oz (almost as light as a Bugout) perfect EDC knife that because the the reverse tanto blade is just as tough as the PM2. It just doesn't look it. That is what I carry.
