Best EDC folding knife?

Hey everyone, this is my first post, so I apologize if I'm in the wrong forum, and for the fact that this thread is probably the most common.

But anyways, I'm looking for a folding knife that I can use at work. I cut through various materials such as rubber tubing, cord/wire, and rope. Considering that I would use this knife when camping, a blade that doesn't rust easy is a must.

I need something sharp, durable and reliable. I'm not a connoisseur of knives like most of you probably are, so my budget is $50. I was doing some research myself and have looked into Gerber, Kershaw, Buck, Spyderco and mainly, Boker. I've heard good things about boker, especially the Boker Kalashnikov 74.

I'm sorry if I don't know proper vocabulary yet, but i don't know where to start. What type of metal? Partially serated or plain? What grip will feel good in the hand for long periods of time?

If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it

I would suggest looking into a spyderco delica 4 with a full full flat ground blade (hard to explain what that is, but i feel it is well suited for edc). It will be a small bit more that 50$ (5 or 6 $ more depending on where you buy it, but it is an absolutely awesome edc knife. For ~50-60$ you can get a vg-10 blade, which is quite a good blade, holds an edge well, and is pretty corrosive (rust) resistant. If you want to spend more you could get one in zdp-189, which, from my understanding keeps an edge longer, and is overall better. Alternatively if it is too small, you could look into a spyderco endura, which is its big brother. I love both of these knives, and they should be well suited to you for edc. Good luck

You mentioned you were looking at boker. Bit of advice from experience, stay away from their "magnum" line. If you get a boker, choose from the boker plus line.
+1 on the spyderco endura. Don't be put off by the plastic handles, they do have liners and are no slouch to hard work ;)
Also, here is some of the usual suggestions
Ontario rat-1 or the smaller rat-2
Ontario utilitac2
opinel
anything from Kershaw

P.S. I wouldnt go with zdp189 for the delica/endura unless you have some sharpening experience. Stick with vg-10. BTW welcome to the forum.

Delica, Tenacious, Persistence all by Spyderco is good. Then you have the Ontario RAT series and many budget Kershaws. The Boker 74 is one of the best value autos and is good for the price.

Ontario Utilitac II and Ontario Rat-1 folders are the best deals I know of. Both are available in plain edge or partially serrated, coated or not. They use AUS8 blade steel, which is very serviceable. Both can be had for about 26 bucks/ea. Made in Taiwan. I'd say either is the best you can get for under $50.

Good luck in your search

I agree with the delica or endura but only in vg-10. I don't think you have any need for zdp and it would only become a hassle for you to try and sharpen when you would need to. Also, if you are doing heavy cutting tasks I would look at the saber ground fully serrated delica/endura.

I second this as well.

I recommended a plain edge Spyderco Pacific Salt to a friend who wanted something for camping, fishing, general use, etc., who was concerned about rust. He's happy with it and I've seen them go for under $60.

Simple. Affordable. Reliable. Classic. My suggestion for a good folder under $50? The Buck 110.

I think spyderco is pretty nice, but if you really need to keep it under $50 consider CRKT knives.

Gerber isn't something to get into. They're pretty good for about a week and then they get butter knife dull and literally fall apart.
Get an Ontario RAT-1, and buy a Torx set wit the leftover cash.

If your gonna cut a variety of materials daily I'd suggest a full serrated blade. For 30-40 $ you can get a tenacious which has served me very well in its duty. Just my .02$

Rust resistant? Cutting Rope? Sounds like a job for the Spyderco serrated Pacific Salt or the serrated Salt if you want a smaller knife. Both will get the job done.
