Best edc knife for around $200

Too many choices. Maybe you can tell us a bit about your preference, such as lock type, steel, handle material, length, weight, and country or origin? Without any of them, for me I would choose a sprint run or dealer exclusive of speyderco PM2 or Military, ZT 0562, or Benchmade full size griptilian with 20cv steel.

I'm looking for a knife that is under 5.5 oz and is in s30v, s35vn, 20cv, m390, or s90v. I dont use my knives for that hard of tasks. Blade length doesn't really matter anywhere from 3 to 4 inches is fine.

This thread is going to get LONG. You should jump on one of the more well known Blade stores and narrow it down by ticking the $200 and under box. You will still get a half dozzen pages but it will take far less time than reading the hundreds posts that questions like this produce. Then you could narrow it down for the boys here to help out. Good luck and happy hunting

There are a ton of flippers to choose from, if you're looking for a flipper.
Buck is turning out some great folders in different steels in the non flipping selection. Have you checked out SKblades?

Bench made loco or mini loco.

Has some custom style touches and great Ergos built like a tank. Hands down best folder I have ever used

There are so many knives in that catagory. Everyone is just going to name their favourite folding knives.

I recommend you check out ZT knives, WE Knives and Kizer knives. They offer great value in terms of what you get for the price.

You could also check the used section of the forum and maybe find a good deal on a knife that would normally be over 200$.

Fellow newbie here and apologies for getting long-winded, but.... Congrats on having stuck your head down into the rabbit hole/through the looking glass, and welcome to the new universe that you never before even dreamt of the existence of. As time goes on and you do (a LOT) more research, you’ll end up laughing at the question you posted above because you’ll become aware of the countless possible answers there are to that question. I started with the same question ~6 months ago and I’ve long since learned that there is no such thing as “the (one and only true) answer” to that question.

To give you an idea of the complexities involved in trying to arrive at “the answer”......
1. What’s your budget? ~$200 is one thing, but ~$100 is something else and more can open the door to infinitely more choices.
2. What kind of locking systems catch your fancy? Liner locks, compression locks, frame locks or back locks? This alone gets very complicated--not to mention fixed blades, which is a another universe.
3. What kind of opening systems catch your fancy? Are you OK with a thumb stud, or would you like a flipper? How about an assisted flipper, an auto or an OTF? More complications.
4. What kind of scale materials catch your fancy? Ti, CF or who knows what?
5. What kind of blade materials catch your fancy? Are you OK with pedestrian steels or do you insist on a “super steel”?
6. Do you care about where your knife was made? US, China, Russia, who knows where or does that maybe not even matter?
7. What about blade length, handle length, O/A length and weight? Lots of complications there.
8. Blah, blah, yada, yada......... It can go on forever.

Anyhow... Given your minimal parameters and trying to come up with a “hip shot” at a moving target type answer, I’d suggest a Spyderco Delica (lockback with a low end of ~$75) or a ZT 0450 (~$160 Ti flipper). There are also the BM Grips (mini and full size, pedestrian and “super" steels), which run from ~$95 to ~$180. That being said, the possible answers are endless. Above all else, remember one thing -- you can never do too much research before you start spending money.

Happy shopping!

Benchmade 550-1 or 551-1, ZT 0609 or 0470, Kizer Gemini or Ursa Minor, WE Rectifier or Practic, Viper Orso... there are a lot of great options.

What one should not do is get a job selling knives at a well stocked sporting goods store, you will end up just buying a bunch of knives, and have no money left on pay day for food and beer.

TBH you need to be more specific.

With these parameters there's maybe 20-30 good spyderco's, 10-20 benchmade's, 10-20 ZT', couple cold steel, Kizer, lionsteel, WE, steel will, ect ect. All great knivesfor you.

It's not like there's only a few really good knives around, the're loads of great knives on the marked.
