I know, knives are not the best for self defence. I would rather have a 1911 and a full clip, better yet fast legs to run away. However if you found yourself in a bad spot and could not avoid confrontation which folder would you most like to have?

for me it woud be a
1) ZT-300,
2) cqc - 12
3) benchmade 710
4) bladetech Rajbak

Anything from Zero Tolerance
BM710D2 (or whatever steel)
BM H&K 14205
BM Ruckus
BM Skirmish
Spyderco Chinook III
Spyderco P'Kal
Kershaw Tyrade
Kershaw JYD (any kind)
CRKT M-2 (Full size Ti-framelock w/4" ATS34 Blade)
CRKT M4-03
SOG Trident
SOG VULCAN
SOG FatCat
CS Recon I
CS Voyager
Believe or not a Buck 110,I got stabbed with one & it hurt like hell!

now there's an endorsement for ya! :p

I personally would not want to get stabbed with a Cold Steel Talwar folder. Yikes.

Actually, I'd rather have a flashlight. A blind opponent is always better than one with a smaller knife. There are some keychain flashlights that will do the trick.

When you ask a question like that, it's best to consult the pros.

But until then, I like the Cold Steel Gunsite. It's a great knife. Absolutely splendid.

Boris01 I am not the most experienced with knives, but I would go with the benchmade 710 if it out of your choices. The D2 steel is more stain resistent and a tougher blade. .12% chromium almost considered stainless, stainless having .13% Chromium. Great wear resistence also.

My choices are:
-benchmade 710
-Mtech(I have this now, it is an awesome knife for cheap price)
-Cold Steel EX. LG TANTO POINT VOYAGER

The knife is the least important component in self-defense. Training i smuch more important than the specific knife.

As long as the knife has a good lock so it won't close on your fingers, has some way of preventing your hand from sliding on to your blade, has a sharp edge and point, and can be opened with one hand, it will do for self-defense.

I personally prefer knives with the Wave or a similar device, but that is a personal preference. I usually carry an Emerson CQC-7B and a Spyderco Endura.

Hey Confederate, I was looking at the Gunsite and was wondering how much blade was after the serrated back end part of the blade?

a good OTF automatic. I suppose if that doesnt really count as a "folder" then I would probably go for something like a benchmade 610 or 630 or an emerson super commander. Im not sure what restrictions we have on this one, but Im looking for reach, sturdyness and a STRONG blade steel in this fight.

oh, and good luck fighting someone with a gigantic kitchen knife with whatever folder you have. maybe that benchmade LFK or their gigantic voyager would give you some reach but they are hopelessly impractical to carry around normally.

best combination of edc and fighting? 710. almost 4 inches, but only 4.6 oz and its thin enough to be good in the pocket. or the mini comm, shorter, but certainly a good defensive knife.

I would not want an assisted opener, because in my experience, every so often, the blade does not open all the way, for whatever reason. Maybe it is being gripped wrong, maybe it's clogged with gunk, or maybe something gets in the way of the blade as it opens--in any case it is not a 100% reliable system. What if the moment of truth arrives and your blade is half opened, and with your stress level off the charts, you don't even realize it?

I would like something with a positive flipper guard like the CRKT M16's. Otherwise with any thrust you are very likely to cut yourself as well as your opponent. Make mine a black blade. If possible, I will have it already out and opened when the SHTF, and a black blade will not draw the eye, especially if lighting is poor.

Finally if there is a model name etched on it, make it something like "Workman's choice" or "Ol' Whittler." If it's "Zombie Eviscerator" or "Devil's claw" the prosecutor will have a field day with that at your trial.

couldnt agree more, which is why I want good functional jimping too if I plan on using the knife for self defense. and agressively checkered scales/frames.

as for blade colour, I prefer satin because I want the blade to be visible and hopefully avoid an actual fight.

It doesn't have to be that bad, even the name of the Spyderco Military was used against a defendant a few years ago.

Gotta agree with Chewy1 there...

That be the only folder I'd bring to a knife fight...
