Best folding knife as a gift to a girl

My girlfriend could not care less about folding knives but, I think everyone should have a nice knife (and a good flashlight) handy so I thought a lot about what knife to give to her and I think I came up with the best one:
a Benchmade 940. I gave her mine. She likes it a lot and even uses it occasionally. Perfect for her; lightweight with a useful blade and, most importantly, the axis lock release is more user-friendly than a frame/liner lock or back lock. Plus the knife is just pretty, green with purple accent. One day at work she was using it to cut an apple and one of the other girls she works with complimented her on it; said she wanted one. Of course when my girlfriend told her it was a $180 knife, her friend was shocked. Anyway, if you want to gift a knife to your girlfriend, wife, daughter etc, I’m certain the 940 would be sure to please.

I was thinking about getting my wife a knife, maybe a mini Griptilian, I'm not sure. I keep meaning to ask her about it, but I figure she'd just say no so maybe it's best to just get her one preemptively. I guess the best thing is to buy her a knife I want in case she doesn't end up carrying...

I got my wife a purple Delica a while back. She's not a knife person by any means and doesn't carry it everyday, but likes it nonetheless. I felt it was light, unobtrusive, a good cutter, and of course it's purple...she loves purple. I also think the backlock was a good choice because it's very secure, and for most people it requires two hands to close (more control).

Yes, purple, nice. And I agree about back locks. Very safe if operated with both hands. My GF didn’t want to hear my instructions on one-handed operation of the 940. But yea, good choice, the Delica, the mini griptilian also.

Rike Hummingbird... its small, an integral and comes in lots of colors. I got one for order on for my wife, and I sure hope its not a kick in the jimmies!

My wife has had a few of my good knives but loves her Buck Bantam. Pink Camo, made in USA and $20. Great knife for the $$$.

She also has a Spyderco Ladybug I gave her (somewhere, if she even knows where it is), but she has barely used it.

She’s just not into knives, so I have no interest in pushing her to carry a $150-200 knife as it isn’t here thing.

Mine carries a digicam spyderco military in her purse, and a zdp 189 ladybug on the keychain. Also a mini maglite. She didn’t really ever carry a knife before I met her, but the ease of opening of the millie makes her feel a little bit safer, and the ladybug is perfect as a letter/package opener. I tried maybe 5 or 6 knives, unsuccessfully, before I found one (or two) she would actually use and carry. Turns out she likes wearing pink, but doesn’t care for it on a knife.

It started with an H1 Dragonfly and I was surprised that she always had it close. Then on vacation we visited Spyderco in Golden and she was crazy (bigger surprise) over the SS Dragonfly Tattoo (it was the only thing we bought that visit). Now she always carries a Delica pink/purple Zome and Surefire pink Titan. Marvels never cease.

I always include my family and friends in my passions. Given my dad, brother and friends all sorts of different watches, guns and knives. I've given my girlfriend a few knives for the BOB I made her and am also giving her a neck and purse knife soon. I let her choose what she likes the feel of.

The biggest mistake in making a gift choice for women
would be by sterotyping all females as having a natural fondness of cute pink folders.
Never assume especially if you have just gotten to know the person...
But, should a person really appreciate you,
they probably won't utter a hurtful word
until termination of relationship day ;-)
Finally, play it safe and keep note of their every like and dislikes.
Yup, hopefully that might prevent any expensive knife from going to waste.

I think the biggest mistake in buying gifts for women, or, anyone really, is buying something you like for them.

I'm a girl, admittedly an unusual one, I enjoy a Spyderco burple PM2, Grey and blue Griptilian, Blue Bugout, Blue Benchmade Casbah.... The list goes on and usually depends on mood and outfit as to which one I choose for the day. Don't overlook the Bugout tho, its light and plenty useful blade.
