Best hunting knife?

minus the wood handles id say a buck119 I love mine and it is a great hunting/ outdoors mans knife

personally i dont like it, looks like it still needs fit n finsih

That knife is good for larger hoofed game like Elk, but too big for smaller game like White/Black-tailed and even some Mule Deer.

I hunt Whitetail Deer here in SC and they don't get too big. My favorite knife for cleaning and quartering them is my Bark River Gunny in A2.

Sheriff Teasle: Why would you be carrying a knife like this?
John Rambo: Hunting.
Sheriff Teasle: Don't be a wise guy. What do you hunt with a knife?
John Rambo: Name it.

Or the best 'all around outdoors knife'

i really like the best made co's Hotta-san Hunting Knife http://www.bestmadeco.com/collections/knives/products/hotta-san-hunting-knife
but it's overpriced. can anyone where I can find something like this? high quality wood handle and blade?

thanks! (new to this forum so forgive me if it's in the wrong subsection)

When you say "overpriced" do you really mean this, or do you actually mean that it's above your price range?
Kinda big for my tastes, but if you like these Japanese style big knives, take a look at Kanetsune brand of knives which are sold on fleabay at discount.

You will need to understand that Japanese blades made with blue and white steels are not meant to be "choppers" like how people treat their big American knives. These knives are meant to slice (hunting) or to cut into softer/green woods. If you try chopping/batoning a lot of North American hardwoods, you will chip-up the edge.

For "all round" stuff then yeah, look at Bark River, their knives are fantastic. My Bark River Aurora is my go to blade most of the time, but the Bravo 1 is a good choice too. A little smaller, the Bark River Fox River is a superb game dressing knife - my mate has one and it's been great the couple of times I've used it. Personally I use a Buck Vanguard for game dressing (mostly goats) and it's never let me down. Definitely worth a look.

What are you hunting for?
Do you want a knife for field dressing or processing?
Or do you want a knife to have fun with in the woods??
Many options here....

Sorry, re read the first post. Best all around woods knife? Simply a matter of preference. Have you noticed anything about certain knives that you do or do not like? That will be a good start. Do you spend a lot of time in the woods? If you do, you probably already have a lot of experience with knives. Or if you are just starting to get into it then the 119 is an excellent choice without breaking the bank. And give you a start, I try not to spend a lot of money unless I know it is what I need/want and will be worth the money. But there are many ways to skin a cat. I know this is cliché of "bushcraft" Or "survival" (not particularly fond of the over use of either term) but hey, I'm Canadian and use what works, a folding saw, small axe and a good fixed blade will cover all my bases. But while hunting I leave the axe at home. And I usually have a folding knife on me all the time. Guess that didn't help you answer the question...but just get out there and see what works best for you!

I know nothing about the knife you listed....and I would make sure I knew a lot about it before dropping that amount of money on it....what's best for one isn't always what's best for another
