Best knife for cutting wires,rope,etc...

If you HAVE to cut wire with a knife, use a serrated blade that you can afford to replace. A fully serrated Spyderco Native or Endura is probably as good as you'll get; you could pay for a Manic if you need a stronger lock. Get an appropriate sharpener too.

I'd avoid most wires. if you absolutely had to, I'd choose something inexpensive with a chunky saber grind and obtuse edge angle... but a lot of wire cutting will wreak havoc on nearly any decent knife edge.

Get a leatherman with wire cutters. You'll ruin a blade trying to cut through metal.

Well I wanna get my dad a nice gift he's an HVAC technician and does after jobs so a knife for stuff for that,he has a junkyard dog 2 as his pocket knife now but it gotten really dull and he's sharped it with a spyderco sharpener but still dull

Whatever knife you use to cut wire, make sure you baton it with a police baton. I recommend a hinderer at secondary market prices.

But seriously, you should never use a knife to cut wire my friend. If your dad works in HVAC he will have plenty of other tools to cut wire.

Once again, get the right tool for the right job. A knife used on wiring will get dull incredibly fast, and often dulls beyond the point at which you can resharpen it without a belt sander or extra course diamond hones.

Wire cutters are cheap and effective. Leatherman multitools have them in addition to knives that work great on rope.

Channellock 89:p

The cheapest junk knife you can find if you have to cut wire with a knife.

Mini tool with pliers for the occasional wire cutting. E.G. Leatherman Squirt ps4.

I was in HVAC for a while and you have to use good wire cutters for the wire in flex duct.
Copper wire is softer but will still ruin a knife.

Sounds like your money would be better spent on sharpening equipment, he will need to sharpen pretty often if cutting wire :p like others said, multitool with wire cutter is best bet

Cicatriz speaks truth. The tempered steel wire in flex duct is even hard on diagonal cutters; it'll ruin a knife edge instantly, ANY knife. Use wire cutters instead.

If I had to cut wire with a knife-I got a Byrd Hawkbill for $20 recently. Probably wouldn't hesitate too much to use it if needed...it's easily replaced :) It would also do a fine job until it was destroyed.

Try a Leatherman skeletool. Knife is quick to deploy and it's minimalistic, only a few tools on it, including wire cutters.

A Razzle from CRKT or get a custom from Jon Graham. This is my Go to Work EDC. I like the feel of a small fixed blade over a folder for that kind of work. I used my to mark cuts in 3/4 " copper pipe all day and still has a great edge. CPM 154 CM has treated me well for a work knife.
