"Best" Microtech Folder

I've owned the Select Fire and I currently have the DOC and I will say between the two go with the DOC. If you happen to get an SF with a hard detent which was the one I had then its nearly impossible to open. If you get the DOC with a hard detent then there's a flipper so no big deal. I really love the DOC it's one of my favorite knives that I own.

I wouldn't rate either of the 3 you mentioned as Microtech's best folder. That title would go to the Socom Elite for me, with the Mini Matrix following. The SF was nice but I couldn't warm up to it. The DOC didn't do it for me either. If you decide on the Whale Shark, make sure you hold one before you buy. Many consider it to have a love it or hate it grip.

To me the original Socom's had better quality control than the Elite and certainly the Delta's that came after them, lots of inconsistencies reported in the Deltas it seems, but for current production I'd have to say the Elite. The first place my G10 Delta went out of the box was back to Microtech, the lock was easily defeated with simple closing pressure, no impact needed. We'll see what returns, there's a lot of concerning reports about their customer service, but sounds like it's improved as of late. In their defense they cashed my check for the $15 warranty fee very quickly though.

I have owned all 3 and sold or traded them all. I think the Whaleshark is the best of the 3.

SOCOM DELTA! I got it 3 weeks ago and now all my benchmade and spyderco knives feel like cheep and crappy its sad. But the socom delta is an awesome knife.

I have owned all three you have mentioned. I would say out of those three I like the DOC the most followed by the select fire. If not choosing those I would have to agree the socom is the way to go.

I'm going to be watching this thread with interest. I just got this mini-matrix a week or so ago and am very impressed with the quality. It's got me thinking I need to look at another micro tech.

That's a tough one. Top 3 in no particular order (depends on the day). Mini Matrix, Socom Delta, DOC

I'm lucky enough to have the DOC, SF, and Whaleshark. I'd put the SF at #3 of them. It's a great knife, and I have nothing bad to say about it. I just enjoy the other 2 more. I think maybe I find the looks a bit on the gimmicky side. As for the DOC and W/S, they are very different "feeling" knives. While the action and fit 'n finish are pretty much the same (extremely good) the soul is different. The W/S is more sculpted with flowing lines. It feels great in the hand, and it's actually quite a bit smaller than the DOC. The DOC is more of an animal - big, heavy with lots of heft in the Stider-esque handle. If you told me I could only have one I'd choose the W/S. It's more versatile and I love the shape. Either way you can't go wrong.

I have a manual LCC from 2000, and I'm much more impressed with my mini matrix. Mine wasn't loved as tenderly by its previous owner though, so as always YMMV.

its time for my first Microtech, will have to wait until fathers day, but plan to get a DOC. Socom Elite looks to tactical DOC is more my style.
