In trying to cutout my stiddy from a chunk of D2 I determined that I need more than one saw blade for my band saw. In a rush I picked up some 10/14 from Morse, and they seem like they will do okay for now.
So, to stock up, what would the best be to have on hand? I keep seeing rules of thumb like a "At least 3 teeth in the work at all time" and "no more than 24 teeth in the work at any time" then there were others, but it wasn't all going to give me a great answer.
Obviously, I need fewer teeth if I want to hog out something thick to make tools out of die steel. Or even if I were going to attempt to split (resaw?) thicker steel into knife blank sized steel. (if that is even possible) In addition, I assume I need more teeth if I am going to cut brass, aluminum, nickel silver, or mild steel. Perhaps fewer for carbon steels, stainless steels, and who knows what for weird alloys, clad, and the occasional piece of *mascus that I might be so lucky as to come across. Then of course, there are handle materials like micarta, acrylic, and other resins, and naturals like wenge, ironwood, hard maple and so forth.
Did I miss anything?
