I'd just like to know what you guys think is currently the best self defense folder on the market. I'm going to vote for the BM 806D2 AFCK. I love its handle, it's just so very comfortable. The knife seems to be a part of your hand. I'd love you hear what all your opinions are on the best self defense folder.

I like MT LCC. Feels light and alie in my hand. However, I truly believe that any knife can be used for self defense purpose. It's the technique that counts.

I like my Kershaw Blackout. Opens super fast and its all black which makes it hard for the attacker to see if at night. I would probably pick another self defense folder if I could afford one lol.

Custom:
Crawford Kasper Perfigo and Blackwood Skirmish. Never handled either one of 'em, but they are just awesome designs.

Production:
CRKT KFF
BM AFCK
Emerson Commander
Timberline Kelly Worden

@torment
Ain't that a shiny black finish on the Kershaw?

I'd say....this one! J/K :D

If I had to, I would choose my BM 943.

Spyderco fully-serrated Police.
Cold Steel Vaquero Grande.

Microtech Socom Elite. Gotta love the sabre grip handle and the 4" blade with a very acute point.

My preference is the Microtech Amphibian or the Benchmade 42 for handy accessible EDC carry with the ultimate less accessible (tucked in the waist band at the hip) "team" being a CUDA Maxx in my strong hand and a Spyderco Civilian in my weak hand.

That said, folders are in general "last ditch" self defense tactics that rank far behind being alert enough to avoid the conflict, running away, a rifle, a shotgun, a handgun, a stick and just before unarmed self defense.

Knives like all other tools/weapons are largely a matter of personal preference and circumstances. In addition you should if possible comply with the law regarding weapons and concealment.

The most powerful self defense tool is your mind. If you are not prepared to take a life, then no self defense tool is effective.

mschwoeb beat me to it.

Bt of course, there is no ONE answer to this question, as first and foremost, depends on what fits you. This is not just what fits your hand, but also what fits your fighting style. I knew one guy who only used single edged blades for combat(not sure what kind of training he had, he told me, but I don't remember), and while I can do this, and have practiced with it, like having edges both ways, less worries of things like wrist turns/snaps or changing grips.

I'm with Roshi on this issue.

Let's face it, most folding knives are from 3 to 4 inches. They all pivot, and some pivots are better than others.

To stay in the terms of this debate, I don't think it matters what knife you are carrying, as long as it is sharp enough to slash, or strong enough to penetrate.

If down to these criteria (in a fight with only a knife), I would hope I was wearing a superior brand of sneakers. That's because this boy would be running away!

For threads such as this Ichabod has the right
idea.........feet don't fail me now:eek:

Why? Easy. Anyone who has ever been a knife fight
or seen the result of one will know for certain
that NO ONE WINS:rolleyes:

A knife used for self defense as a weapon can lead
to grisly business that is better avoided. What
if you have no choice in order to save your life ??
Pick up ANYTHING that you can get your hands on
that is BIGGER than a knife to keep the attacker
as far away from you as you can. A folding knife
of any kind brings them much to close:eek:

AFAIK, mine isn't shiny at all Quiet Storm. The only shiny thing on it is the sharpened edge.

The best one is the one you got with you.Feet are great but not always an option. There is no universal tool or advice thats works all the time.Sticks and canes are great unless your in your car or riding your bike or cutting the grass in your yard or any of a 100 other things I can think of.(unless you do these with your cane in hand)For many a folder is just easy to carry 24/7.

True story a few years back here in Rochester NY an older guy has 2 punks jump in his suv as he enters it himself at a store. They drive him around from atm to atm,he figures they want his money maybe his car than he'll be let go.

He's now in the back seat and they are planning how to "get rid" of him. This old guy looks over at his fishing tackle box,and takes out his fillet knife.A knife that would be far down on almost anyones fighting knife list.He kills the driver and the second punk gets cut up and the old guy lives:) .

A knife for defense isn't always used vs.another knife or even any weapon, you can't always run,and keeping your head and waiting for the right time to strike means a lot and any knife beats no knife.

I have been to dozens of stabbings and cuttings in my 14 years as a firefighter/emt.I have seen many clear winners and clear losers. The losers are the ones bleeding. The winners are long gone.

THAT'S why one of my 2 choices is my Cold Steel Vaquero Grande...That monster is over 13 inches long when opened, and has a 6 inch blade.

I vote for the Hammond Cruiser. You've got a fast flipper-opener. Four inch blade with nice recurve and excellent point. THICK liner lock and for all intents is as strong as a frame lock. Lock is recessed to prevent accidental unlocking. Generous and beautifully crafted comfortable micarta scales. Nice and deep finger choil, palm swell and pommel flare. Excellent blade to handle ratio and balance in the open position.

This is a serious combat folder and why not? Jim Hammond does this stuff for the military and special ops community.

But - it's still a backup for me as I prefer fixed blades for defensive use.
