Best small pocket sized hi quality flashlights???

This one.

Not AAA, but probably verging on "best" territory, judging by the price tag:eek:

Nah, Lumenscraft Gatlights are nice but IMHO not the best.

Now these... are the best

(yes, they are mine)

In all seriousness, however, you should check out the Fenix LD01. Somewhere under $50 (can't remember), runs on a single AAA and ridiculously bright. You might explore NiMH rechargeables or Energizer E2 Lithiums if you want longer runtimes. There is a special limited edition stainless steel model (normal is hard anodized aluminum) if you want a really cool one.

you should check out the Fenix LD01.

Nice and not so expensive.

If you don't care about the cost - search for Novatac's.
You might also search for used HDS. The only drawback is the power socurce - (R)CR123 batteries are not so popular (and cheap) as AA or AAA

I've got old used HDS 42 basic, and to be honest, it fits my expectations in a 100% :D

Ra Lights has the former owner of HDS Systems at its helm. They have created the successors to the HDS and Novatac EDC lights. (It's a complicated story, Novatac bought HDS, but HDS' owner later left and founded Ra Lights.)

I like my Surefires but I've been carrying the Fenix L2D exclusively since I got it, and the L1D is essentially the same except it takes one AA instead of two. (Slightly less light and shorter life, of course.)

+1, but I have the LD20 version. CR123 battery flashlights are awesome because of the extended runtime, sometimes brighter output, and shorter footprint. However, they have to be wide enough to accept the battery, so there's the tradeoff.

Fenix is hard to beat for value and light output.

For a AAA light it pretty much needs to be an ARC-P or Fenix LD01 / L0D

I have quite a few small lights and IMO they are the best for the price.
I carry one of these on my key chain at all times but still have a Surefire of soem sort for larger lighting jobs.

Here is a few pics to wet your appatite

ARC-P

Thanks everyone, i was loooking at the Fenix LD01 when i posted this thread and you all helped me to confirm that it is the right one for this specific need!

Sounds like you have made up your mind but I got a Fenix P2D over a year ago and I'm totally happy with it. It is small enough to fit in my pocket (watch pocket on jeans works great) so I always have it. On low it runs forever (Ok in the range of 30+ hrs but that is a long time) and can be quickly turned to turbo if a lot of light is needed, which it has.

I bought 12 of the $1 titanium cr123a batteries and I'm on my 4th one. They might not be as easy to find or as cheap but I am more than happy considering it has been over a year ago and only spent $4 on batteries so far. And I use it a good amount, at least daily for a few mins.

I've owned used a myraid of Surefires in personal life and on-duty. I'm recently a First-Light-USA fan. Well thought out, great quality and fantastic customer service. They've recently released what I would call a "pocket-sized" version of their main product. I've owned a strobing Liberator for over a year of fantastic service and just ordered a Tomahawk (smaller version). It's not real small but it fits in my pocket and functions the same way as the other so there's little to no adjustment between what I use at home or on the street.

They do offer a free trial period. Check them out, call them, great people!

I love my Arc AAA-P, I've been carrying ne for years, but it doesn't possess the wow factor of some of the newer higher powered lights. For higher output in a small AAA powered package, I like my Fenix L0D, but I hated the multi-level twisty interface. Mating the L0D body to the Streamlight Microstream switch though is the best of both worlds IMO, bright little multilevel light, with a pushbutton switch.

I have been carrying the Novatac 120T for about a year, and find it wonderful...I made two mods, and adjusted it....

1. Mod-cut the pocket clip down to a nub so it rides in my pants pocket on the lip, and still has the hole for neck wear...clipping was unnecessary for me.

2. Used a vinyl cap end on the end of the tailcap so I can bite on the thing when I need hands free....very, very handy.

3. Adjustment...cycling....first click 35 lumens, first click and hold, strobe, second click 120 lumens, 3rd click 10 lumens....this has been a very solid performer....I paid about $90.00 for it.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Another AAA no one's mentioned is Peak LED. I have the Baltic, Pacific, and Matterhorn all three great lights. First two have the throw and the last is a great flooder in the 3 LED format.
