Looking for a good sleeping bag for backpacking trips in Florida. Keeping in mind that it only gets below 45* here for a week or so in January. This will be mainly for spring, summer fall with temps above 50*
small volume and light weight required.
I found one today at the army navy store in WPB. I think the brand was Outbound, it weighed about 2 lbs.
Suggestions?

This might be a little warm for what your looking for, but these guys might could make something to spec if you give em a call. I have the shennendoah summer quilt (long) and a 40-45* ish rating it weighs 1 pound and squashes down about the size of a nalgene bottle. they are ultralight though so a little care is needed in using, but given that; Ive found mine to be durable and its like sleeping in a big fluffy cloud.:D

If your looking for something a little more robust, say... that you could sleep next to a fire and didnt need to be to picky about how you treat it, a surplus wool blanket might be up your alley;) Pretty sure theres a lot of guys on here that like to use those if your interested, Im not sure the weights.

Roundabout where in florida we talking? northern or the keys:D

at that temp, you dont really need protection from weather.. you can accomplish that with clothing - but if you want some sort of cover, what about simply a sleeping bag liner?

yeah man, i lived in florida for 20 years and sleeping bags of any weight made me sweat my ass off unless it was late fall, winter, or early spring...

I agree with gravydan, just get a cotton sleeping bag liner and if it gets cool after a summer rain, throw a lightweight beach towel over it. Look in the Army Surplus stores for a ponch liner, they work good also...

I live in Florida, and I have been using a SnuPak Jungle bagfor couple years now. It works great. It has a zip up bug net, zip open feet section, is pretty roomy, and pack down really tiny.

He took my answer! ;) They are about the size of a coconut when all rolled up and compressed. It is a fantastic for backpacking due to the light weight and very small size.

I have one of these and love it.
