Looking for the "best" fixed blade tactical knives made. I have a Gerber LMF II and think it's a great knife, but researching for the "best".

this is a well-worn topic. Theree is no one best knife, there are groups of knives that are best for a given task. The more specific the task, the more specific and less "do-it-all" the knife will be. Any specific task you want to achieve?

Top "tactical" (looking) production knives would probably be Busse + Strider. These WAY outclass the LMF in toughness. However the knives that recon troops & SWAT actually use? Varies by the individual.

The category of BEST will be 1000 makers long.

Not in order:

Busse, Tops, Fallkniven, Randall, Cold Steel, SOG, RAT, and that is just production and semi-production.

To me it feels like the LMF II and the Ka-Bar are kind of Combat Mora knives. They are decent and expendable and not that expensive to replace. I have a lot of issues with the LMF II, one being the force needed to get it out of the sheath. The other one being the huge sheath.

If I had to choose I would pick a Fallkniven F1 or S1 and a multitool. That would be the "survival" knife and that would be what I wear in my belt.

For "combat" knife I would use the bayonet. It is in the supply chain, I manage, if I loose it, until I get back to base and it is tax money so I dont need to be careful with it.

So in short: get a good 4" fixed knife and a multitool for "survival" ONLY and something cheap for "combat".

Has anyone ever done any tests with these knives against the LMF II or Ka-Bar? I know guys out of service, long out, who won't go anywhere without their Ka-bar, same one they used for the last 20 years, give or take.

You got it all wrong the 'best' tactical knife is of course www.razrknife.com!! Man, these knives are heattreated up to 6 times!! That is quality.

:D:D

OMG $589 for the best selling model!:barf:

How little would you have to know about knives to think this is a reasonable price for a knife made from 1/4" 1095?

Busse and strider are king of fixed and strider folders are the best imho if you go to third bat and look aroun your gonna see an smf.

if you cant afford them i highly reccomend rat cutlery. as far as swat goes their RC4 is perfect.

Yeah! razrknife is the BEST-est of the BEST!

If you think price will substitute for knowledge, then you deserve a razrknife!

I completely disagree.

That knife is way too heavy, bulky, clumsy for a practical and efficient TACTICAL tool. It will also be difficult to use it for military purposes because of the weight factor. TBH, i'm not sure what category that knife fits in as there are many others that will outperform it (wehter it be for camping, survival etc). It's one of those that try to do everything and does nothing really well at all.

As a tactical knife I think the ideal size is around 6 inch for fast quick deployment and use.

The BOKER range is tried and tested in tactical\military roles and is more efficient and practical to use. Examples include the Armed Forces Tanto\Spearhead range (as a NON-expensive option).

As an 'expensive option' I would recommend the Fallkniven A1 black, if you can live without the serrations. TBH, the straight edge VG10 should cut most encountered anyway. This baby can accomplish other roles really well too (i.e. Survival, Military, Camping whatever).

Kabar range is worth looking into too. But I think they are more suitable for military all-purpose than just tactical roles.

My choice: Fallkniven A1 and Boker Armed Forces Tanto (G10 handle and skull crusher butt)
