Cold Steel actually sells a good one. I think it's called the sure strike. It's thick and big though... But I bet it'd hurt. I was thinking about getting some fo these for my weapons collection. I owned the cheap crappy ones when I was a kid. Be nice to have a real one.

Here ya go... Pretty nice if you ask me

The cold steel throwing stars are serious.
I saw some at a gun show and was impressed.
I've never seen any like that before.
I wouldn't want someone throwing those things at me,they're huge, sharp and heavy.

GreySteel-san, I sense that your ninja skills are very strong.

Every warrior needs one of these in his ninja pack:

Something about that kubaton just doesn't look right to me..

Cold steel throw stars are nice. I've held them and balance is nice. But I'm not to into that stuff, so sorry for no help..

Find a job site, ask around and and pick up a couple old circular saw blades. (Ripping blades with the bigger teeth.)

Wicked Fun. and free to boot.

Traditionally, shuriken were 'throw-away' (no pun inteneded) 'blinding' or confusion causing devices, used at close range before either moving in for a kill or running away. They were made out of cheap iron, usually not even steel, hammered and cut out with sharpened points only. Often those points would be coated with a poison. Ninja weren't nice guys...

I would also make sure they are legal were you are, you get caught carrying one in Indiana and it is off the jail you go. Just a misdemeanor but still not a fun time.

I tried throwing the small steel chainrings from an old mountain bike. Actually flew quite well, but the teeth are too shallow to "stick" well.

Thank you very much for all your replies everyone, very helpful! Also one more thing what do you guys think of Cold Steel throwing knives?

They're not bad... they aren't super high quality knives... but they're high quality throwing knives... and durable and sharp enough to make for a good utility knife. As far as the shuriken... I'd go with the CS model cause they're HEAVY. They'll stick real well and make a thud when they hit. Other thinner lighter stars are gonna bounce off trees and such unless they are wicked sharp, and most thinner stars are madeof crap metal and hard to get razor sharp. I'm probably gonna order about six of the cold steels just to have for my "Odd Weapons" collection. In that collection I also have their Mace and War hammer... both of those are built like tanks and I've destroyed many things with them.

I persaonly think for odd ball weapons... cold stell is the king. Most "Throwing" knives are junk... and even though there are some nice hand made ones... they're expensive... I think cold steel gives you a good balance of quality and price for those strange weapons that no one needs... but are cool to have anyway. I'm also seriously looking at that dang Chinese War Sword... for some reason i just wanna swing it yelling HASAN CHOP!

I haven't seen any of those since I was a kid. I'm going to have to pick up a few just to play with.

The Cold Steel throwing stars are tough, sharp, and heavy. Because the edges are fully sharpened (instead of just near the tips), they can't be used for any hand-to-hand techniques (which is a part of the traditional range of techniques for shuriken and shaken).

The Cold Steel throwing knives are tough, sharp, and heavy, too. They hold up much better than any other inexpensive throwing knives.

As Absintheur mentioned, carrying "martial arts weapons" in some jurisdictions can have serious legal penalties. Read up before you carry any weapons on you.

You can make some nice throwing stars by laying out a bunch of horseshoe nails with their heads together in a circle. Heat the heads cherry red and braze them together with a brass brazing rod. You'll end up with a stylish star with a nice gold ring of brass at the center. These puppies fly really well with the mass at the center. You can hold a lot of them in your hand and throw them all at once. Depending on how you release them you can bunch them together at the target or string them out in a line either vertically (overhand) or horizontally (sidehand). These things are illegal in a lot of places so don't try this at home unless you're legal.
