Just wondering what the best tumbler medium or combination of mediums to use for a stonewash finish?

I'd like to know myself. I've used triangle ceramic stones and now river pebbles. They are giving me more of a fine and very consistent finish that looks more like a bead blast. I prefer a heavier stonewash. If anyone could shine some light on this that would be great. Thanks!

Yes, that is exactly what I have been using and getting the same "fine" results. Would like something a little more aggressive.

Count me in as curious...getting ready to buy some media and I don't wanna have to buy it twice...I want a heavy stonewash finish.

Going to try some shattered/crushed ceramic triangles today. Let you know of the results.

Great topic. I also want to get a tumbler. What do you use? I want one big enough to fit a BK7 or 9 down to folder blades. Any advise, links appreciated!!

I get great results with Harbor Freight ceramic stones (medium). The tumbling is the issue!

Unless you get one of the $1000.- (+) Vibratory, the results are going to be the fine stonewash(which is ok).
If you want a more dramatic look and you don't want to spend big bucks, get a plastic container with a screw on lid, a little water or WD40, medium, blade and shake for 20 min.
I've used a Harbor Freight tumbler and it gives a too fine a look. I've used a Harbor Freight vibrator, it broke after three uses.

Good Luck!

Yes, that's how I was doing it prior to getting the tumbler machine. I think this time I will try using crushed and jagged tumbler media inside a bottle thrown into the clothes dryer. Let you know how it turns out. Thanks.
