Best way to contact Sal?

I have a problem with a Sprint run knife that is brand new and have read many times Sal say to contact him or direct a knife to him so he could look at it himself. I don't know if anything can be done about the knife but don't want to make a big deal about it on the forums either. I sent an email to him about 3 weeks ago on Bladeforums and didn't hear anything so sent an email about a little over a week ago on the Spyderco forum.

Is there another way to try and contact him? I am feeling pretty disappointed with this knife and was really hoping he had a good solution to the problem. Thanks!

Usually, Sal as the CEO of Spyderco is not really the right person to contact about warranty questions - there wouldn't be much time left for him to do anything else :). He has employees that are there to handle such requests. Charlynn is one of the mainly responsible persons when it comes to customer service IIRC, and she and the rest of the staff are really nice people that will take care of you just as well as Sal himself would. If the problem with the knife is something special, unusual or fatal, chances are that he will be informed about it anyway.

You can reach them per email customerservice@spyderco.com

or you just give them a call:

Phone: 800-525-7770 / 303-279-8383

If you got your knife from a dealer, it may be worth a try to contact him first. Maybe he can help you, too.

Hope this helps.

I did contact the warranty department and it sounded like they probably wouldn't do anything but I could send the knife in anyways. Well being disabled and unemployed I would rather not waste the money to send the knife across the country and insure it for a couple hundred bucks if they are just going to tell me they can't do anything, its within "spec", or they offer me a credit. I haven't had the best of luck with the warranty department which makes me even more hesitant. Spyderco doesn't have spare blades so I'm not real optimistic about the situation. The knife was sold out before it shipped from Spyderco so I doubt there is a spare lying around and the retailer also did not reply to my email I sent 3 weeks ago.

I splurged and bought one of the most expensive knives Spyderco has made and now I'm stuck with a sub par knife and I'm somewhat frustrated. As I said I didn't want to make a thread about the knife but I guess I will to see if others feel the same way about it. I doubt I could get what I paid for it if I sold it in its current state and I don't want a credit with Spyderco. I just want the knife in the same condition every other person got theirs in and was hoping Sal could help out.

what's the issue? it could be something as simple as needing to clean lint off of the lockbar face/blade tang (if it's a liner/frame lock).

Hi Flamtnbkr,

You can always send me an email. I usually get them.

Either way, it is really difficult for me to make any kind of determination on your problem without seeing the knife.

You can always send it back where you got it and ask for a refund?

That didn't take long at all!

I hope everything works out for you.

Hi Sal,

Thanks for the reply. I will assume you didn't get either one of my emails and send it again. I used the email function on Bladeforums as well as the Spyderco forum and have never had a problem before but I'm sure it can happen if a computer is involved. I included a picture that clearly shows the problem, whether anything can be done is what I don't know. I can probably get my money back (although they didn't respond to my email sent a couple weeks ago) but I waited a long time for the knife and was really hoping to be able to keep and use it. I can try to get my money but I was really hoping the problem could be fixed somehow. Thanks again!

Is the same sprint run knife you had the trade problem with?

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=791360

I was following that thread and was curious how it all panned out...either way if the problem originated with spyderco I am sure they will fix it. Let us know.
Cheers,
Patrick

Hi,

No that was a separate trade and different knife companies. I bought this one directly from a dealer.

I also have got no where with that trade. I have not had time to send the knives back to the companies with the holidays. I think I am still going to make a thread with the persons name so that people can come to their own conclusion and he can defend himself if he wants. If he feels he didn't do anything wrong then he shouldn't have a problem with me telling people about the transaction. I still want my knife back or money but he isn't going to do that I guess.

Fair enough- Sorry to hear of your recent bad luck in knives. I must have misunderstood the other thread as I had thought you said it was an m4 military that you got hosed on in the trade. What sprint run is this thread about since you mentioned it was one of the most expensive ever produced? I hope you get what is a fair and acceptable solution, in both cases.
Cheers,

Well things get a bit crazy around here during the holidays and the factory sale so it's certainly possible that some communcations get lost in the shuffle.

Whether or not we can do anything depends on the model, the quantity made, where you got it and whether or not it was new and not taken apart.

I would suggest trying to send your email again with your problem and I'll watch out for it.

Hi FlaMtnBkr,

I found your email which came in through Kristi.

We'll be disussing your problem in our Wednesday mtg. However, judging from your photo, I don't know that there is anything we can do except give you a credit as the run is finished.

As I mentioned, you could probably return the knife where you purchased it and get a refund, or even sell it to someone seeking one.

If your purpose in purchsing the knife ws for collection or invetment, I don't think the "flaw" mentioned will make much difference in a future sale.

I would like to mention that our focus in making knives is for function. There is a lot of hand work that goes into these knives and few are "perfect". I don't think that the "flaw" that you mentioned will not hurt the function of the knife. But as I mentioned above, we'll discuss the question.
