I'm cleaning out my tools and realize that I do not need to keep my grandfather's double bit axe any longer. Looking around the net it seems that it is probably collectible. It is a Supplee-Biddle Wm Penn axe in used but generally good condition. I could just put it up on eBay but thought I would ask here if there is a better way to get it to real collectors. Any suggestions?

With the proper membership you can sell to the enthusiast here.
Which your post may be borderline within the rules, but may leaning towards the sketchy side.

I would suggest writing about why you think the axe is so special. Clean it up and show if off with pride with 10-12 pictures. Post them here and write in detail about everything that makes it exceptional. Sounds like you have something very special and you should share that with everyone (in the axe community). If after all of that, you still want to release it (imho, you shouldn't), do the same on facebook (axe junkies, axe addicts, legacy woodcutters) and Instagram. If you want the right person to find it, write about how special it is, and the right person will find it.

Good morning John

Hello John

I certainly hope we may connect when convenient for you.
My collection is about saving the past, rescuing the passed over and ones discarded before their time is up.

Miller

Thank you Mr. Tewksbury.

An honor and pleasure to now own your grandfathers Wm. Penn Supplee Biddle.

How can you have 2 Holy grails at one time? You just broke the internet and my brain. Well done brother!

That's awesome Miller. Thanks for posting it!

Both are Beauties....!

Thank you so very much!

Definitely axes and many traditional hand tools are a passion if not obsession...shhhh.

My goal is always a custodial conservationist effort, to pass down to my boys.
My mother, likes to joke how we will both sadly miss the episode when one or both my boys will bring the collection or pieces of for that episode of "crazy axe collectors".

Snow and wind coming a couple days...gotta load the porch up with wood...we may lose power.
I love it! My wife just misses the joy in it! :D

So this is a legit illegitimate sale ad with steps taken towards a transaction...

Agreed- it's a little bit of an oxymoron to say you don't know where to find collectors of an item on a forum of people who are interested in specifically that item.
You did a great job of informing, and I appreciate you doing that. A lack of activity besides this initial post seem to also count doubt on the legitimacy of the seller as a contributing member (in the broadest sense).

I'd leave the moderating to the moderators.

so you're moderating the moderation? :p

Just as a general comment:
It behooves us to protect the best interests of the forums, so 3fifty7 is doing the right thing by informing folks of the rules and scrutinizing what's going on here.
Further more- member or not, buying something out the backdoor of the forum could also be considered inappropriate, because that encourages folks circumvent the rules. The rationalization, "it's okay, I'm a member and I want it because _____" doesn't change the end effect. I also understand that the actions of the buyer Miller '72 Miller '72 were not ill intended.

But you're not wrong, but just assuming the very busy mods have the time to keep up with all these isn't a good way to go. Let's invoke the name of one to help get visibility and clarity. Boru13 Boru13 can you provide moderator input on this back-door transaction?

PS - Miller '72 Miller '72 hello fellow Connecticutian- we're also preparing for the storm. :)

Yes I can, it’s against the Exchange/Site rules and should have been reported.

FYI

The OP of this thread disappeared from the forum as soon as he was chased off.

I could not reach him, though I tried...as I only knew of him from this one thread.
I happened to then find the axe listed in auction on ebay last week.

Anyone here had the same opportunity as I.
Does not matter I had every intention of winning.

The gentleman simply came here for help as we all did the first time.
Will he be back..? Probably not.

Which is the real shame here, someone that could offer insight, experience, information...rather than snipe.

Did, was I out of line..? Really? Call me out if thats how you feel.

I posted this axe as a nice conclusion to this thread and to show a fellowship among axe collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Some here know me, some do not.

This noise concerns me.

I am beginning to understand the frustrations of past great contributing members that became less frequent and ultimately have disappeared from this site.

I am not happy with the negative attention this single thread has garnished.

I share my collection, information and experience freely...This is a rub for sure.

Many apologies- appearances aren’t always as they seem. I’m sure you understand how it looks. Thanks for clearing it up.
