You guys 'ought to have an opinion on this.

Who makes the best interpretation (I tried to avoid using the word "copy") of Ray Mears' Woodlore knife? I'm talking either a manufacturing company or one of the local makers on the boards.

Pictures would be great too!

Thanks much.

This happens to be my leather on this knife - but Cody makes AWESOME sheaths as well.

For $25 Condor Bushlore is a good knife in the Woodlore style
Not anywhere near the quality of a $130 knife
But well worth the $25

The Tamagami and Enzo Trapper come to mind as possible solutions as well, though I have no experience with either

I've got the Bushlore coming. I'm beginning to be more and more excited by much less expensive offerings these days.

Wow - thanks a.l.hare.

Here is the information on the Arete by Fiddleback Forge - this is the Prototype:

You have to see what Fiddleback is doing with them NOW. He has taken my design and done his own aesthetic elements to it. 3D spalting on the blade, Micarta pins, laminate handles.... they are awesome.

I have an Enzo Trapper in O1, although an excellent knife, I did not suggest it
I presume a Woodlore 'pattern' has the spear shaped blade
The Trapper has more a puukko shaped blade with a straighter spine

In that case get a $10 #1 Mora with a red birch handle LOL
Seriously, it will give you all the fine bushcraft cutting you will need.

In fact, if you carry both the Bushlore and the #1 Mora, you will be in good shape, where the Bushlore you can baton, chop and beat the hell out of, and the Mora for fine cutting.
All for $35

...then go to a gardening supply and pick up a pull tooth pruning saw...

But they will not be as pleasing as these knives shown!
Some beautiful stuff shown

I agree with neeman. The EnZo Trapper (and all of the Enzo range) are knives in their own design right. Their influences are clearly puukko and leuku based, not Woodlore based.

That said...they are excellent and from the styles I've handled, much nicer to use.

As for the Woodlore inspired blades, the UK based Bernie Garland makes a good classic version and Dorset Woodlands Blades makes a nice variation on this theme.

Personally I don't like them....but I'd be looking for thinner stock than the typical 4mm / 5/32" if I was to score one....jsust so any food I prep doesn;t end up all over the parish!

Here is the example of the Bernie Garland Version:

As you can see - I have been on the hunt for the perfect knife for some time. In terms of the CLOSEST to the Woodlore - go with Cody "Adventure Sworn". His knife is priced well - the sheath is well made and accurate - and is a great knife.

This has me thinking. I think I will do a post of the knives I have owned, or own, in the search for a Woodlore... or Woodlore derivative.

Another vote for Cody from Adventure Sworn. I have one on order from him right now. Just an outstanding blade.

Thanks for all the ideas so far guys. Much appreciated. Keep 'em coming if you got 'em.

How resistant is the "Adventure Sworn" Scandi grind against rolling? Quality heat treat with these?

Best!

Does anyone have the direct web-site for Adventure Sworn? Or, e-mail addy for Cody?

I'm not sure I'm on the right one after using google.

Thanks.
