He already has some smaller knives (Moras) so he wants something really big.

His main requirement is chopping. I reccomended Warcraft Tanto from my own experience with that knife, but he is concerned he won't be able to get 3V sharp on the field...

I suggested Terava Skrama - but he wants a tip that can still be used to stab into something.

ESEE Junglass is out of his price range.

He's looking at BK-9, and BK-9 seems as a good choice to me too, but I wonder if someone of you might have some other reccomendation or maybe feedback on BK-9.

Any response is appreciated.

I'm guessing he couldn't be talked into a hatchet? If chopping is his main requirement, he might be best served with a nice hatchet paired with a 4-5" fixed blade.

For the price, a BK9 or BK7 might be the best option.

Kershaw has some large choppers ,great value about 50 usd,Condor has some really nice choppers a jest bolo they have is very nice

BK9 is an awesome camp knife. It's one of my favorites.

Kabar 1179, a large (10”) and manageable knife that’s great for camping. Might not be what your looking for but I thought I would put it out there.

I agree: The worst hatchet will out-chop the best knife...
(Assuming he has the space to pavk it.)

Ontario SP5

IMO, a machete or axe is far superior to a big bush knife for general outdoor use, but if that's what he wants, the BK9 is a solid choice.

bk9 is a BOSS. I dont think he could go wrong there.

If he likes the Junglas but finds it too expensive, has he looked to the Ontario RTAK II ? Half the price but real similar.

Kershaw Camp 10 is pretty neat at the $50 mark.

I also like the Ontario RD-9 at $70.

I sure like a Kukri for chopping, but that takes away the "tip that can be used to stab into something".

The BK9 and the Skrama are the two best choices. The BK9 chops pretty well, but the Skrama is better, for me anyway. Better as an instrument of mayhem, too, if that is how you roll. I do not recommend one however; that would only tend to drive the price up..

In the old days I would have also recommended a CS Trail Master but their prices are ridiculous for what you get these days. I'd echo a hatchet or BK9 for fun.

I forgot to mention, the CS drop forged series looks interesting, I haven't tried one. But the Drop Forged Survivalist has what you are looking for, under $80 in 52100, which is a steel I love.
