Bad Big Scam Just Happened at /r/Knife_Swap- Kershawkid1984

Funny, I also have a friend in NY forward packages for me. Guess I’m not the first one to come up with it.

It’s just disgusting that people would steal knives from one another. Anyone in the hobby knows how much a knife can mean to us.

Thank you for the warning. I wish I knew where he lived so I could get vigilante on his ass. London Ontario isn’t that far from where I live.

For anyone affected by this bottomfeeder let me turn you on to a valuable resource.

Just google Mail Shit and send this dude a CRKT Wrinkle.

Thats the problem with the reddit knife forum. Both those usernames have been wiped. You can't even look at their post history to try and piece things together. Not only that but you can't name and shame there, so really, you wont stop them from doing it again under a new username.

As a Canuck myself, I certainly hope he somehow ends up taking a long walk off of Niagara falls. Or that the Mounties deal with him. Either scenario is fine with me.

I don't even understand what OP wants. I have no idea who the person that scammed them is. If they showed up here we would be none the wiser because we have no names.

Watch out for some dude from ontario I guess

Ahh yes..he strikes again! The mastermind operating from the shadows we know only as "the Dude from Ontario". Business Administration Junior College student by day, he finances his high rolling lifestyle by pulling knife scams on unsuspecting Reddit users- His identity always a secret..

Knife_swap has grown quite a bit but its still a relatively small and legit community. I personally have had several dozen sales and trades on there with no issues. Just apply common sense and back away if red flags start coming up, like you would here on Bladeforums.
 
People ragging on reddit for having a scammer and here on BF you have a whole sub-forum for scammers and other problems. Pull your heads out of your sanctimonious sphincters, ffs.

I have also had many trades, purchases and sales on Reddit as well as here on BF.

The dude came here and posted to try and warn people.

Since you have used both to trade, please read post 4 and let us know if it is inaccurate on the rules or nature of reddit.

If it is indeed an accurate assessment then that is a very big difference in how scammers are dealt with compared to here and while appreciated, makes this warning more or less moot.

Edit to add: Scammers are on every platform. Ragging on the mere presence of a scammer isn't fair but ragging in how they're handled is understandable. The balls to the walls ordeal is a prime example.

EDIT: Just realized it's an OTF switchblade. Not likely going to make it through customs here.

It's accurate in that yes, people can delete their accounts.

However, the names and addresses the guy had the knives sent to are known and were forwarded to the police and postal authorities. I believe there was a follow up post saying the guy had been caught by the police. That sounds like a pretty good 'how they are handled' to me.

In addition, various members of the /r/knife_swap community are offering to donate knives to the people who had been scammed by this guy to help make up for their losses.

Despite the exact names being deleted and probably not being helpful for anybody reading this on BF, the details are still relevant and might be enough to warn somebody away from dealing with the same guy. He posted here in case the info might help somebody avoid getting scammed and most of what he got in response was crap about how Reddit sucks and 'what is the point of this post' by people who are simultaneously crowing about how great the community is here. Do you not see the irony in that?

When OP comes here and posts a warning but leaves no info what was the point? He gave us reddit usernames but they were deleted. If we dont know his name and address whats preventing him from making an account here and starting his scam over again? You can't post his name on reddit, so if no one knows who he is, whats stopping him from just making a new account and scamming more people? No one will have any idea who he is except some dude in Canada.

He updated with the guys name but you can fake a name. We need an address to avoid. Addresses are harder to fake

This is why you won't see me on Reddit. It's too poorly organized. I can't keep track of who's who or what's going on. I'm more than happy to just keep paying my BF membership dues.

I'm sure the community is great. They're knife folks afterall, but I prefer BF.

Hopefully the Ontario PD catches that scumbag and gives him his due. (I wouldn't hold my breath though.)
