Biggest fixed blade for EDC

I have a question for all of you.

Whats the biggest fixed blade you would carry every day and how would you carry it?

Im sure everyone has at least some opinion so this might be a very interesting read

Biggest would be around 19-20 cm/7,48 inches overall. This of course depends on the carry mode, this would be the pocket carry. Even this lenght is on the upper limit for pocket, usually smaller. If I carried IWB which I sometimes do, the maximum lenght would be about the same, maybe 8 inches.

Larger blades could be carried horizontally on the belt, but I rarely do that. If I can carry the knife openly (for exmple hiking) there is no upper limit, I carry whatever is practical and usefull.

Biggest I've carried on my person is my Obake, which is 7.5" overall; 8.25" in the sheath. That one goes IWB, with the cord on the sheath attached to belt or belt loop.
Bigger than that and it's going to end up in my bag.

The biggest fixed blades I edc are 8.75" and 9", and because I live in Northern California they ride unconcealed on my hip. This is much more knife than I could ever need for edc, but I love them both so I carry them.

I currently EDC a Bradford G3 @ 3.5" along with a folder, but largest would be a Spartan Phrike @ 4". For EDC anything over that is too much for my personal pref. Too heavy, too noticeable, too in the way. Unless of course my profession required something larger. But I find that a 3.5-4" blade will cover every high abuse EDC chore on a farm. Unless I'm hacking at a tree but that is rare and does not fall under EDC. But always have 5.5 and 6" S35VN @ 58RH and a 7" 1095HC near by just incase :D

I have been wearing a Condor Mini-Bushlore (about 6.5" overall length) in a vertical belt sheath a good bit lately and don't feel odd doing it in stores and so forth. It has been a learning experience. But my favorites are two Doziers, a Personal and Companion in his horizontal kydex belt sheaths. Both pretty small knives.

Biggest I carry most winter days is my Aqua Salt, 4.6" blade, in its hard plastic sheath.

Usually clipped to my belt, point upwards, in my right back (tip up, the point of the knife just behing my right kidney)

Due to the excellent retention of the sheath and slim profile, the blade can be carried securely, discreetly and comfortably this way, and nobody ever knows it's there while still being quickly and readily accessible.

Tried bigger, but that's the limit for me

I carry a smaller one maybe 4" blade in a pack but never on my person, just too cumbersome to me

My biggest "leave the farm" EDC fixed blades are a pair of Kabar 3/4 shorties, 5-1/4" blades, 9-1/4" OAL. A pair of 125Xs. Sometimes the stacked leather versions, sometimes the black Kraton versions. I always use the hard plastic 5016 sheaths for either handle type. I like the triple retention system. These two knives are alwaysaccompanied by a smaller fixed blade, a Kabar Becker 11, and 2 folding knives - a Kabar 1121 rigging knife and a Buck 501.

The largest "on the farm" fixed blades vary based on the tasks being performed and could be Kabar 1217s or Kabar 1281s, Kabar Becker BK9, BK20, BK21 or an Ontario machete, along with one of the shorties and the 3 smaller knives.

All of these with the exception of the Blackie Collins Winoka Skin Divers knife have been EDCs depending on my need. Left to right they are CPK Drop Point skinner, BUCK 107 Scout, Dosier Arkansas Toothpick, SYK 311, BUCK 102, Dan Koster Bushcraft, Swamp Rat HRLM, BK2, Blackie Collins Winoka Dive Knife, EK Model 5 Combat Bowie.

So I guess the answer would be for a week in the weeds the EK Model 5 at a Blade length of 6.875" and an Overall length 12.9375".

I've had one of these on my belt EVERY DAY since I the first one. Wonderful. Is completely hidden under loose t-shirt; is completely comfortable to the point that you forget that it's there until you need it. Bradford Guardian3.

This gets carried daily.

There can be only one...

Meant to reply to Vicarious and forgot to "reply with quote"...
