In my quest for the ultimate neck knife, I ordered the Bird and Trout. Too early to tell if it can rise to that expectation, but here are some thoughts
- Grind is a little uneven, but that doesn't bother me. Edge is razor sharp.
- It is a good blade length for utility tasks, right around 3". It can handle food prep better than the Bird and Trout.
- I don't like the large ricasso. Why did they make it that way? On a short knife I want as much blade as I can get
- The finger ring is bigger on the B&G. I think it is bigger than needed; the B&T ring is just right.
- The molded on handle adds a little more comfort, but the B&T is not bad with just bare metal.
- Notice how the ring placement differ between the B&T and the B&G. It's easier to grab the B&T without putting your finger in the ring. On the B&G it feels awkward if you do that.
- The sheath is OK, I would prefer one without the push tab, like the one that comes with the Spike
- The size/weight of the B&G is about the maximum for neck carry for my preference. The Spike is more of a belt knife.
- B&G is still small enough to slip into a front pocket. Not so much with the Spike
Cold Steel usually makes practical, thought out designs, and this is no exception.
