The kids and I watched Bizarre Foods tonight and the star Andrew Zimmern was using a Mora. Seems like a year or two back I saw him using a Kershaw. Anyone know if he's a knife guy?

Well he has culinary knife videos, and is the real deal chef wise and he seems to have reviews on different knives etc. Apparently he lives down the road in St. Paul, Minnesota originally being from NYC. He had a real hot shot restaurant a few years ago here. I heard he came here for rehab after the NYC chef lifestyle caught up with him and decided to stay. he has real pro chef cred, he is not just another pretty face for marketing but I guess that would be obvious. So I guess it is safe to say he is a knife guy at least in terms of cooking. He has a collection of very high end custom Japanese culinary knives apparently.

I'd say so I saw him use a spyderco military to open a clam before, at least he seems to know what good knives are.

I have seen several knives he has used. Not sure if he is a knife guy or someone that borrowed them from the crew or such. Anyone got his email lol

I like his show and he seems like a good guy. In one of the episodes he gave his knife that he was carrying to a lady that cooked her family and him a feast. I think I remember it being a SAK.

I'm not sure if he's a knife guy but it would be cool if he was. I used to record and watch his show on my dvr until I got a new dvr and forgot to schedule his series to record until now. I like his show and he's entertaining to watch. It takes heart to do what he does. I know he gets paid to do it but some of the things he eats I wouldn't even consider. BTW I think the guy someone mentioned used a millie to upen a clam was the guy from man vs food but I might be wrong.

I just took this pic off my tv screen and I'm wondering if it's a junk knife or a good brand.

He was using it on the show. It's not the best puc but I know there are some guys here with a keen eye for knives. Thanks.

Thanks for images SS. It looked like the Bill Moran for the 2 seconds I saw it as I walked by the TV on my way to the kitchen. What about that other knife? The Gerber Paraframe one :barf:
And thanks to goodeyesniper for the clarification.

Alton Brown on the Food Network is a big knife guy. I've seen him use quite a few different Spyderco and Kershaw knives on Good Eats.

His wikipedia article say's he's a knife collector. He also has his own line of Shun Knives.

There was a survival special episode of Bizarre Foods where Mykel Hawke is a big part of the episode and gives Andrew a knife and strands him on an island. Andrew is forced to make a shelter, carve a spear for fishing and harvest some local fruit to eat. I forget what the knife was that he used.

Asking if a chef is a knife guy is like asking if a NASCAR driver is a car guy. :)

Look around and you will find a lot of chefs and people in the food industry that really do not care about there cutlery nor sharpening and maintenance.

A lot of kitchens "rent" blades and treat cutlery like they do the linens and the uniforms.
