Before you erupt in to uncontrollable chimp screams of rage, I was put up to this. The only reason I did it was to practice the transition between hollow grind and flat/convex. I'm gonna go hide now but I thought it was a pretty neat pic.

Yes, different. I think that the handle needs some mods as well to make this look..........? What you set out to do with your transition looks to have come out well. If you do anything mores to it, I would enjoy seeing it. Thanks for sharing. Know what, airplanes looked different at first too!!!!

Here is a little better image quality:

I would probably make the handle a little smaller to be more in balance with the size of the blade but I didn't want to mess with making a new sheath etc. The handle is really really comfortable straight out of the box so no need to change it except for proportionality to the new blade shape.

Very interesting shape of blade; if it works for you, why care about what others think?

Actually i like it...slicing tip carving/batoning rear section. Seems like it will work.

Hahahahahahahahah!

Hahahahahahahahah!

Maybe you could carve it down a little more and make a full sized handle version of the BK-11?

Nice job. I know there is a lot of hate for the tracker blades, but I've never held one in my hand so I'll reserve judgment.

This newb does like the concept of 2 blades in one.... this is the main thing I love about my Machax. I can do the fine carving stuff at the narrow part of the blade (roughly the same thickness as my BK16), but it has the added heft and the correct angle to chop extremely effectively.

Hey I won't laugh or go ape shit - I certainly don't have the skill to try do this.

Have you been using it much? How's it working for you?

In comparison to a standard Tracker style knife you lose the chopping and sawing aspects when you mod a BK-2. That being said, I personally have found the chopping and sawing abilities if a Tracker to be compromised. If you like the combination of hollow grind with a flat/convex up front and a quarter round you would probably like a BK-2 modified this way. It isn't for everyone.

This is actually pretty cool. I am not big on the trackers but you HAVE to respect the amount of effort this took. This must have been a very daunting task to grind out. Looks like more of a "stabby" kinda tracker and personally like the swedge instead of a saw back.

Very cool AIG

Also wanted to drop this in for contrast, another Becker Handled Tracker made by Todd Hunt.

but you HAVE to respect the amount of effort this took.

NO KIDDING.
That's a TON of hardened 1095 to grind away. 1/4" 1084 (annealed) is dirt cheap compared to the cost of a BK-2. But then AIG said it was a commission anyway.

You are getting to be a very skilled grinder, Doc........ That's a helluva job, my friend.....

Here is a closeup of the transition.

I kept the flat grind area on the front of the blade but added a convex edge. I clipped the point using a French Curve as the template. I also swedged the top but it is not sharpened. That was mainly done for looks but it does give you a nice tip to drill with. The draw portion of the knife is hollow ground but the very edge of it is also convexed. The transition between the two grinds is a quarter round and I treat that as a 3rd edge and convex it as well. Finally, I established a new sharpening notch. I ground the old sharpening notch out in a smooth arc. The final steps were just some buffing. I find that carbon steel rusts a bit less when it has a bit of a shine to it. You still have to maintain it but it resists rust a little better.

If I was starting with a blank of annealed steel I could probably establish that grind and the blade shape in about 20 minutes. The entire process on this knife took 1.5 hours, but that is because I keep the knife cool so as not to disturb the heat treat. The blade never gets above warm to the touch during the whole process. Also included in the 1.5 hours was stripping the coating and the buffing/polishing steps.

Kinda looks like a Persian Tracker w/ Becker handles.

I don't like it at all but I respect the time, effort and ability that it took to get there.

I hope whoever gets it loves it and gets the help they need! :D
