BK9 Kydex belt attachment input

I'm getting a Grizzly custom Kydex sheath made for my BK9 with a piggybacked BK11 and firestarter on it. Perfect reason to buy an 11 now, will be my third Becker after a 5 and a 9.

Taking into consideration the length of the knife, walking and sitting down, I'm torn between a simple offset Teklok belt loop, and a dangler belt loop with milled slots and an optional leg strap.

I'm looking for some input. I'm wondering what the package and weight will do if I try sitting down with it attached by the offset Teklok.

Also, if I go with the dangler, do they flop around a lot, and how about the leg strap? Seems like a good option as well, although I might look a little dangerous among the sheeples if I wore it hiking. I could wear it without the strap around other people and use it when I am hiking by myself of course.

What are your thoughts on the two?

And those that have experience with a dangler, would you choose that option again, or go with the simplicity of a simple offset Tekloc?

And lastly, leather or nylon for the dangler material? I'm leaning toward nylon.

Appreciate your feedback, thanks!

I carried a Safariland drop holster on my 2nd tour in Iraq. It has a nylon drop, I preferred that to any kydex drop I've ever used. It had plenty of give . A dangler will allow you to swing your blade out of the way when entering/exiting a vehicle or when crouching. I don't have any experience with the sheath brand you mentioned, but as long as they don't overdo the features you've highlighted you should be happy.

I have a 9/16 dangler from azwelke with a leather loop. I don't use a leg rope but then I only wear it around the yard cause it's pretty damned heavy. If you're going to wear it amongst the sheeple, I doubt it's the strap that'll freak them out ;). I'd worry more about a decent belt so it doesn't pull your pants off and get you hauled off for public indecency....

I hate the way Kydex sheaths ride with only a TekLok. Unless it's scout carry, and then it's not so bad.
Danglers are better in my opinion. Like Murph said, it's easy to swiing out of the way when sitting.
I've used danglers attachments in both Kydex and leather. I like leather better. The knife rides with a more natural feel.
I haven't used nylon, but I'm sure I'd like it better than Kydex.

I'm actually going to be sending my NixKustoms leather cross draw sheath to him soon to add a dangler attachment.
I usually only carry the 9 on my hip on short trips or around camp.
If I'm hiking it's usually always in or on my pack. It's a big knife....lol

+1 on this.

I personally prefer the leg drop style. I did some very modest modification to the factory sheath on my 2 to convert it to a leg drop. Use a piece of paracord run through the eyelets on the sheath to tie it to my leg. Very comfortable.

Thanks guys, appreciate the input. This will be mostly for camping and woods walking by myself.

Here's the one I'm going with. Might pick up a Martin for my BK5 as well.

Tap the photo to enlarge. .93 Kydex also, which it nice.

This is how I do all my sheaths. Tek Lok with a large metal ring that fits in the teklok with the dangler attached to the ring. That way I can easily switch the teklok to my belt if I want.

That is a really freakin' good idea. I may poach, someday.
edit: that seems like it would also work really well with the right size D-ring.

I make leather danglers using steel gate rings of different sizes like tobiism posted, and depending on the gate ring size, you can easily and quickly make any sheath with a belt loop into a dangler. I use them on everything now....they are really slick and cool looking as well.

A picture is worth a thousand words......

Agreed......here is a multi-cary system sheath I just finished. The gate ring opens like a carabiner so it can hook through any existing sheath. This one is a 3/4" wide strap on a 1" gate ring. I have done smaller and bigger/wider strap for people, and have gate rings up to a beefy 2" that I have done machete danglers with. I pretty much always have one of these dangers on my belt, even if there is no knife sheath attached, they look nice, and can serve quite a few other purposes as well I find.

Just a thought, but I dual carry large & small knives all the time, and I don't have a large, heavy sheath like that. I just put the blade that's not on my side in my pack. The blade I wear depends on where I'm going. If it's hiking in a national park I'll wear a small one. If it's out on TVA land I'll wear the large blade. When you start carrying a lot of stuff on/in a sheath it gets heavy, and cumbersome real fast. I like a drop leg rig if I can attach it to a vest, though. It just gets old when you have to constantly pull up your pants, or wear your belt way too tight while hiking. Then again my hikes are never under 10 miles anymore, but I'll notice a heavy rig within the first few. Just a thought to not overdo it on a massive sheath set-up. I always thought those were more for bug-out purposes, anyways.

+1 on this. I don't hike that much anymore, but I have to carry tools every day for work and when I'm not at work I like to NOT pull my pants up. If I'm carrying a big Becker around the yard, though, it's on it's own belt; something sturdy and reasonably stiff that I can wear lower on my hips like a tool belt. Then my pants (OK, shorts) stay where they belong. I think it's worth looking into some sort of "tactical" belt for big sheath setups. It also let's you take the whole rig on and off with ease; no unsnapping, un-threading or other such PITA stuff. This setup is for a cross draw with my BK-4 (sheath by trailbum - northeastkydex). It's reasonably comfortable and convenient. On the backside of the sheath are a couple of MOLLE locks. Belt is a simple web belt with a couple 2" plastic buckles. It works. BK-9/16 combo gets used sometimes with this belt as well. That's a dangler sheath.

The only way I carry my 9 is with a baldrick rig. Like on the book of Eli, or crocodile dundy.

I really like the idea of this. I've been thinking a lot about how to do that....differently. I don't think I'd like the one strap over the shoulder, and I don't want it swinging. Also been thinking about cross chest inverted carry. You know, all "tactical".....but I don't think I could explain that one to even myself.....If you've got a pic or two of yours, Nick, I'd love to see it.

Here's how I carry mine
323.jpg

It's a Junglas sheath that is modified as a drop leg rig. Nylon drop attachment and leg strap with a bit of elastic added for comfort.

You can see how it rides in this one

I'll have to try to find the pic if not I'll take another. I like my rig because it sits nice under my pack, and it doesn't get in the way.

Just recieved my Grizzly sheath for my BK10 w/ the BK11 piggybacked. Firestarter on the side. VERY SWEET. Offset nylon belt loop and milled slots. many options for carry or rucksack attachment.
you'll be happy.
Sorry, I still dont know how to post pics.
