can I just mix a little dye from walmart and successfully make up some black epoxy? if not is there a another way than just buying
some .

Many things can change the color of epoxy. If the amount of colorant is small, it usually won't affect the epoxy cure and strength. The best choice are the dry powder epoxy dyes. A toothpick tip of powder will dye enough epoxy to do several handles. The liquid epoxy dyes are just about as good. Some folks use Rit dye, or Testor's model paint, or wood dyes. These aren't made to mix with epoxy, but seem to work OK if you keep the amount low.

The knife supply catalogs and online shops sell the epoxy dyes, as do most paint shops and repair shops that carry fiberglass and boat supplies.

IIRC, some people used to use the epoxy from Golfsmith and considered it to be about as good as Accraglass...............until they started dying it black. Might be worth checking out.;)

I've been using acrylic paint from walmart to dye my epoxy. I've just done it with mosiac pins, but it is working fine for me.

Joe,

Golfsmith changed their formulation altogether. They used black to distinguish old from new while eliminating their old stock.
