Black G10 or Fiberglass Rod?

Does anyone know a source for black 1/8" and 3/16" G10 or fiberglass rod? I have looked all over the place and can't seem to find it. Either I am looking in the wrong place or possibly just missing something.

I can find black phenolic (garolite ~ micarta) but it just doesn't quite fit my needs. Black carbon fiber rod is not what I am after either.

Anyone have any ideas?

I don't currently know of a place that has it. If you are looking for pin stock, I've found that pins can be made from g10 sheet stock without too much difficulty. You can block them out square, then use a metal or wood lathe, or even a drill press and file, to finish them round and size them, if you are creative.
A way that works great for me is to make a square pin, grab it in a mill or drill vise, and cut down onto it with a counterbore, pilot removed. A 1/2" counterbore, with a 3-16" pilot hole, is what I often use. You'll find that you can only get a pin about 7/8" long before friction overcomes the material, with micarta, G10 is a bit better. A little coolant helps.

Thank you for your response.

I was kind of thinking along the same lines as what you described in your post of maybe having to mill them down. I can find 1/4" black stock and bigger no problem. It wouldn't be that difficult to bring it down that far. I have a few machinist buddies that might be willing to help me out.

And yes I was contemplating using the round fiberglass stock for knife pins which I should have added in the original post.

At this point I am more of a hobbyist (semi-retired old guy) when doing this sort of thing. But slowly I am learning by trial and error and through my mistakes.

I have made my own dowel. Basically block out lengths of wood with the grain. Then I drilled a hole in a piece of sheet metal the size I wanted and roughed the edge of the hole with my dremel. I did a series of 3 holes that went down to the size I wanted. Then I put the blocks of wood in my drill and ran them through my holes. Made great dowel of a variety of species of wood.

Here is a video that is similar...except I don't use my bench vise.

I don't know if this would work with g10 but it might be worth trying.

Just for another option, most Remote Control hobby shops have carbon fiber rod from 3/16" down to .015".

Online kite supplier is a great source for fiberglass and carbon fiber rods and round tubes. Goodwinds is where I got mine. Cheap enough to get a good selection of sizes. I've got white and black.

Fiberglass is great for a hidden tang knife because it will also insulate electrically (if your handle material is nonconductive too).

A special thanks goes out to Lukus! Goodwinds had exactly what I was after. And very reasonable prices as well.

Just an FYI McMaster-Carr, Grainger and the other recommended sources in this thread were a wash and didn't have any black fiberglass rod at this time.

Thanks for everyone's replies and taking the time to respond to my inquiry.

I get all mine from Goodwinds also.
