Hi Guys, I just finished writing up a mini review of my new Blackhawk S.O.F. Ruck and thought you'd like to check it out. It's not linked from the main page so here is a dirrect link to it: Blackhawk S.O.F. Ruck Pack Kit Mini Review

Check out the mini review and let me know what you think. Comments/corrections and sugestions are always welcome. Thanks,

Heber

i have the same bag its a really nice pack. i found myself adding to much stuff to it so i took a lot out of it

Blackhawk makes some interesting stuff, but I cant stand that its made in china.

Since the tags were removed by a previous owner, I can't comment on its country of origin. Can say that the Pack is very well made, has good stitching and is very strong and comfortable.

I tend to think that as long as quality control is top of the line it doesn't matter where a product is made in order for it to be worth getting. The only downside to foreign products I see is taking potential jobs from the US, which its typically US manufactures that choose to do business elsewhere anyways.

My personal experience and the experiences of others that I've seen lead me to believe otherwise.

I have had the same bad experiences on items that were junk no matter what country they were produced (US included).

As well as, good experiences with products from other countries that were very superior top of the line stuff (US included).

Im just saying no matter where an item is produced it has to have high quality control, the best materials, ect. in order for it to be worth buying. Although I prefer US products for many reasons, the US isn't the only place on earth you will find high value products.

I agree in theory, however in practice this just doesnt play out. especially with gear, when you compare berry compliant stuff (tactical tailor, kifaru) to others there is a noticable difference.

I think that BH has their stuff made in Viet Nam.

X2
Its made in Vietnam. My issue with this is that you can often get what is essentially the exact same pouch, vest, etc from another manufacturer that is equally if not more respected that makes it in the USA.

Well since Heber bought the pack used from an CONUS citizen no matter where the pack was made he did buy American ;)

Thats a very nice looking pack Herber. I wonder if thats big enough for thru hiking?

What is Thru hiking? I know the pack is big enough for 3 day/2 night trips and thats normally what I do. When I have more money to by Gluten Free packpacking food I'll load it up and see if it can handle 4 to 5 days.

LOL!! Thanks for that and trying to keep this some what on topic.

Thru hiking is sustained backpacking trips like the Pacific Crest or Appalachian Trail. I ask because I am looking for a decent pack that I can use for long hikes and this one looks huge.

Ahh, sounds interesting. I think the pack would work but since I don't know whats needed for such a trip, it's hard to say. The pack sure is Huge!!

The specs on the pack are:

Main compartment - 3,220 sq/inches
Pouches - 2,605 sq/inches
Total - 5825 sq/inches

Probably more then big enough for Thru hiking. Would love hike Skyline drive in Central Utah. It's a 70'ish mile trail that follows the ridge line of the mountains in the Sanpete range of the Manti-Lasal National Forest. Skyline drive is also part of the Great Western trail.

Thinking I might strap my sleeping bag to the top or bottom of the pack instead of stuffing it on the inside of the main compartment. Would give me tons more room for food.

Does it have molle attachments on the bottom? Makes it really easy to attach the bag to the bottom.
