A friend of mine that is aware of my knife lust gave me an ad from a thrifty nickle type publication today announcing an auction closing out the contents of the former Blackjack Knives. The auction is going to take place on Feb.26th,1999 at 1307 W.Wabash in Effingham,IL. at 10:00 a.m. The auction is being run by Bauer Auction Service of Windsor,IL. (217)459-2169

I only live a few miles south of there I might take the day off work and go and see what they have. I think I am getting the flu.

Hey Greg,
I live about two hours north of Effingham but will not be able to make Friday's auction.

Would you e-mail me if there will be any future public sales or if there are any local dealers in the area that may carry Blackjack. Thanks!

Hi ya Carver! I think I am going to go since I am also two hours north of there. I am trying to drag my best friend along. I think I have the flu too heh. How about a Bladeforums meeting at the auction? heh

Aaarrggghhh!

I live near Springfield and I'm even going to be going home on the 26th but I can't leave till after my 11:00 class.

It's probably for the best. If I came in the door with knives, mom would probably put 'em in my tires . . . .

To all you folks from Illinois, do you know of good places to shop/handle knives in person? I'd love to hear about 'em. My email is dgwinn@monm.edu.

I took another look at the ad and it states that the knives will be available for viewing from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm on Feb. 25th,the day before the auction. I hope to see some Blackjack knives on the for sale board!

The way your message read it sounded like you went to the auction and got some stuff.

So how did the auction go? You get any neet stuff you want to sell me?

If you would have seen what they had and what they went for you all would be fighting for my Subhilt skinner! The prices were sky high and the interesting pieces were not there. I did not buy a single Black Jack knife. I picked up some older phamplets and a few signs. BTW I will be selling some of the signs. They would be perfect for any collection. What I did fine was what I felt was a real sleeper. It appears I bought a Jody Sampson repo made by Jody of the Conan sword that he made for the movie. I have been told that they only made 25. I think I was the only one the suspected it was an interesting pieces although someone did put up a bit of a fight. From what I have found out thus far it was the best deal of the auction. Oh and I did get a rough looking Becker sans sheath for a pretty decent price I think. I am pretty sure it is one of the older ones in 1095. Now does anyone know anything about banana knives??? It was a come with type of deal heh.

Tom Carey

Thanks for the report on the auction. Sorry it was a disappointment.
What kind of Becker did you get? How rough and in what way is it rough? If you decide you want to sell it let me know.
I was wishing I could go there earlier but it sounds like it wouldn't have been worth the drive. Thanks for sharing the experience with us.

The Becker I have in the Companion. It does not as I stated ealier and there are place in the butt of the hanlde where there is some chipping. I am not planning on selling it at this time. It was so cheap I feel I just have to keep it. Greg you did not really miss much there. Although as is usually the case in that area. People were very friendly. The weather was awful though. In fact I am now ill. For me it was worth it though.

Tom Carey
