Hey Hey, A while a go an ex-roomate gave me a BlackJack Mamba and I don't anything about this knife. The curves on it are absolutely sexy! Does anyone know anything about this beauty...? Is it it a quality knife?

It was voted one of the best folders of all time by an author with Blade magazine. I can't remember the issue number, but it's the one they were distributing at this year's Blade show in Atlanta. Come to thing of it, it may have been a supplement. Anyway, it is a highly regarded traditional factory folder. Great knife from what I've seen and heard, though I must say I've never handled one.

They also had a fixed Blade Mamba, is yours a fixed or folder?

There are three Mambas that I know of. First, the original, was given a tremendous advertising campaign and I quote, "the twenty first century bowie". Mike Stewart, the founder of Black Jack was very proud of this particular model. Turns out though, the epoxied handles popped off, the blade had a terrible heat treat (nearly impossible to sharpen in the field), and the darn thing rusted like there was no tomorrow. The steel, if memory serves, was "cutlery grade" whatever that is. The second generation, the L-7, was quite a bit better. The rought edges were knocked off, the heat treat was improved, and the handles were pinned, however the sheath was crappy. Somewhere in between, they unveiled the folding Mamba. This was actually pretty cool for the time. It had yellow, brown celluloid handles, metal bolsters, a very neat recurve blade, thumb stud, mid-lock (Al Mar's baby), and if I recall, a horizontal nylon sheath. I'm not sure which one you have, but they were all decent. The important thing is that you like it. Thanks.....:D

There was also the "lightweight folding Mamba" with zytel handles.

I have had the zytel folder for years and it is a nifty little lockback with great lock-up. Also didn't Pacific Cutlery have a version called the Mamba which was a FB way back when?

WOW! :D Thanks for all the replies y'all! Actually mine is a fixed recurve blade, Zytel scales with odd maybe plastic? screws securing them ot the tang. It is engraved with a pair of crossed knives over a shield and says 'blackjack mamba'. It is in a leather sheath that it sorta rattles around in... oh yeah, it has the kind of grind on old katanas (I think) when looking at it straight on iis like a 'v'...sorry my tech. savviness is off... but there it is in a nutshell. Oh yeah, is it worth sending it off to get a custom kydex sheath for it? Once again, THANKS EVERYONE!:D

Right on El Cid! OK people. The verdict is in... I got the original version, but with screws on the handle, and not the original sheath, El Cid's link was great! It makes me feel foolish, 'cause the same guy who gave me the mamba also offered me a marauder, but I didn't take it!!!! :(
Anyone have any suggestions as to how I could improve the knife i.e. repacement screws? Materials? Treatments? Retire it?
