This is a great place to plan a family vacation. The school is located 25 miles from the Smoky Mountain National Park and 30 miles from Asheville, NC with lots of fun thing to do in the area.

I have very limited forging experience but am looking to start doing some. I have a good amount of experience with stock removal of most common types of knives. Would the camp knife class be good to learn the basics of forging to get me off on the right foot? Thanks. I’m in Seneca SC about 45 miles SW of Greenville SC.

Matt,
Yes, we are gearing these classes for beginner. So if would be a great place to start.

Also, the Great Smoky Mountain Hammer-In March 21-24 will have forges open for people to try their hand at forging. Look for another post with details.

Very cool. A friend of mine from school and her husband just retired and moved from Atlanta to Waynesville, so I will have to get up there at some point. She has a retirement play job writing an outdoorsy column for the little Wanesville paper, so I will let her know about the hammer in.

There's a LOT of us in the area JD. Most people makers or aspiring makers that come out here, end up wanting to move here just because of that, and because of the school and hammer-in, even more than the (dozen or so serious makers) the ones that live here, tons of others come through, for the school/hammer-ins, or just because of our relationships. Unfortunately I'm on the East side of Asheville now, so I don't get out to see the crew on that side of town like I used to, but we get together for events, and a number of us meet up in town regularly, or at my shop.

Let us know if you make it out.

Need to find out if I can use my GI Bill/tuition assistance. Only about 400 miles away.
Good luck at that.
My partner used GI bill to take classes from a local Smith. Was not accredited school or anything, Just a Smith/Farrier guy hanging out a shingle. Then went on to start his own Smithy Business what I later joined as partner.

When I first saw this post and saw where it was I was very tempted. Wife and I vacation every few years in Bryson City, without the children. Not sure I could talk her into it as these vacations are for the two of us as a couple and very special to us. Very tempted though.

Update, ABS class prices have been added.

Camp Knife weekend class deadline is this coming week. Time to make that decision and sign up.

March Intro Classes is half full. Register soon if you want to get in the class.

Hello! These courses are educational courses for children that are unbelievably useful for them! These courses develop fine motor skills of small hands, and also teach how to handle sharp objects (like knives) and instill a love of art. These courses develop a sense of personal taste and a sense of personal style in children. These courses are very useful, as well as courses that are conducted by professionals, who work for the coursework writing service uk.papersowl.com, on which children have opportunities to learn how to write literally and to learn how to present themselves correctly. Children must attend a variety of lessons and courses that are different from those they have in school in order to develop. Children tend to develop quickly - so the main foundation of human development is laid down in childhood!
