Blade HQ not shipping to NY

I've been having problems recently with BHQ and they finally told me straight out that they will no longer ship "any product" to NY. Amazon seems to feel this way too. I keep up with my state laws via the Legal Blade app and I haven't been attempting to buy anything illegal. Other retailers don't seem to have a problem. I never really liked the jade G10 exclusives from BHQ (just personal preference) so I know its not a huge deal, it just sucks that we are moving backwards with knife restrictions in some cases. Amazon is the only retailer I could find for some foreign knives that I wanted to check out. This is more of a rant than anything. I had to get it out here because my wife just looks at me with a blank stare when I start talking knives. Thought it might be informative as well for some before they spend a bunch of time on BHQ/Amazon only to be denied. So I can buy marijuana legally now, but not a muti-use tool. Gotta get out of NY. Thanks for listening.

Rants are all well and good, but unless you support a knife rights group (and gun rights group), then a state like NY won't do anything unless they get sued and lose... repeatedly.

What a shame, really sorry to hear this. I grew up in rural western NY, so I knew the frustration very well of being in a wide open farming/hunting area with various laws that were only in place because of the tiny little urban blip on the far side of the state. I love so much about NY, the lakes, Adirondacks, etc. but so many of the "weapon" laws are completely irrational and I guess some of the big vendors might just think it's easier to write off the state entirely than risk being sued.

So are you in the city or somewhere in the other 99.999% of the land area of the state? :)

You're absolutely right, put up or shut up. I will look into supporting knife rights. The knife community is great and everyone I've been exposed to is a responsible owner. Thanks.

I am in NYC and I follow concealed carry laws. Because I do live in NYC, it has shaped my preferences to sub 3", but that doesn't mean I don't like a big girl too. The only knives illegal in NYC are cane swords and ballistic knives. Most other dealers post the standard disclaimer and that is good enough. If a citizen follows the laws and is responsible, their purchases shouldn't be monitored/limited.

Well that sucks if true. I live in upstate NY and have ordered many knives from BladeHQ, but I've been aware that Amazon won't ship them to me. I thought it was only specific types of knives that BladeHQ wouldn't ship to rural NY, like auto's and OTF's? If they now won't ship ANY knife to ANYWHERE in NYS that is new, and is extremely frustrating.

I bought from BHQ a few months ago with no prob. But just recently they denied me a FF Archbishop. I thought it might have been because it's a larger knife. But yesterday I tried buy the BHQ/Vox Dapper, which I bought from them when it first dropped, but they would not process the transaction. I emailed their support team and they responded - "At this time we no longer ship any product to New York due to recent shipping changes and updated policies."

I'm sure they mean NYC, not all of New York. I live about 90 minutes outside the city and have ordered from them several times in the past couple of months with no issues. They just shipped one of my orders out this morning in fact.

Now I've received many knives from other retailers over the past couple weeks, including flippers, fixed and autos. I don't get the new rules they are going by.

I'm quoting directly from their email, but you're probably right in light of your experience. NYC is bad enough without them sucking all the fun out.

Plenty of other places who will ship!!!
I'm in Staten Island, part of New York Shitty! The forgotten Boro or the largest landfill on earth!!!!!
Thank God I head up North often or I'd probably go postal on all the loons around d Manhattan now!!!!
New York State and City will be busy in court for a good bit.....Probably not gonna see to many investigations into mail deliveries....

The any product thing doesn't even make sense. It's like their lawyers said we don't feel like doing our job so no more and we can't get sued by the state. That's a lot of business going to other people for stuff thats legal. They sell a lot more than knifes. It seems like it'd be an easy deny for kitchen knifes and pocket knifes too. I can understand if they didn't send assisted, autos, or even butterfly knives. Even autos are legal for an average person to carry if hunting in ny. According to knife rights anyways. I haven't checked knife rights in a while but it was brought to my attention that legal blade is outdated a little while back on here.

The only nyc thing makes more sense to me. Pretty much every horror story on knife rights in nys is outa nyc. It still doesn't make much sense.

When BHQ denied me recently, I learned of several other great retailers that I might never have looked for. Most other retailers I've tried had no problem shipping me whatever. BHQ does tend to get some new knives sooner and honestly the more options out there the better, especially when it's a very desired knife that is selling out. So this whole experience has been both good and bad for me, just like most things.

Sry having shotty service. I'm actually serving jury duty right now. Kind of ironic, lol

I've found bhq sells out of knives faster too. They are the easiest place I've found to search by different parameters. If I'm looking for ideas with a rarer blade steel or something specific I'll use their sorting options to look stuff up. Unless something just dropped I have a lot better chances of finding my results other places. I have ordered from them in the past but it's rare anymore that they have something I want available.
