Blade-tech Knives?

I was watching a hunting show on the Outdoor Channel, and the host of the show was promoting Blade-Tech knives. I was sort of sceptical, but I took a look at the website and the knives appear to be of fairly good quality. Most if not all the knives use S30V carbon steel.

Here's the link to the knives page: http://http://www.blade-tech.com/home.php?cat=279

Anyone have any experience with these knives?

I've only handled a Blade-Tech, never used it to cut anything, but I feel it's hard to go wrong with a Tim Wegner design for good knife ergonomics.

I have a Blade-tech made Tarani karambit that is very well made. not the best folding karambit for my taste but I am sure the lock and blade would hold up if I needed it. havent used any other blade-tech knives but if their folders are all built like this one I would buy some more if a model got my attention.

I just read an article on Blade Tech and Tim Wegner in american handgunner. I thought that the folders pictured in the article looded a lot like certain Spydercos.

They should look a whole lot like certain Spydercos. When Spyderco decided to stop making the Wegner folding hunter design, Tim Wegner decided to make it himself. I wish he would come out with one the size of the small Spyderco Wegner.

Tim Wenger designed a knife for Spyderco. It was discontinued and Tim added knives to his already established Blade-Tech company, (He already was doing kydex sheaths and tech-loks). The first knife offered from Blade-Tech was a refined version of the spyderco model. Blade-Tech knives are second to none. The quality, fit and finish, and materials are top notch, and Tim Wenger is an honorable man. You can't go wrong with any of the knives offered.

I don't believe Blade-tech is having any knives made in Taiwan. They just released the lightweight versions of some knives, but thet are made in japan.

I never got around to buying a Spyderco Mouse and always regretted it. So a few months ago I ordered the Tim Wegner mouse from BladTech. I got the G-10/S30V version. Nice knife, blade is centered, lock up is tight, easy to open one handed for a knife that small. Great size to just drop in the pocket or clip. I'm not too crazy about the etching on the blade but that is minor thing and just a peeve of mine.

What does that have to do with my post? I never said anything about them being made in taiwan or japan or any other place, just said I liked their knives and I thought they are built well.

I think Shootist must have read Tarani and seen Taiwan.

:foot: Yep. I swear I thought it said Taiwan. My apologies.

Seems like my forespeakers already said it. :) Another testimony for the quality of Tim Wegner's knives.

The Spyderco Wegner designed by Tim Wegner and made by Spyderco was and is one of my favourite folders.Wonderful knife.I have not personally handled the bladetech version of the knife.I think Shootist 16 posted pictures and descriptions of the 2 knives and the differences between them. The Spyderco knife has ATS34 steel and the bladetech knife has S30V(unless you buy the lite version with 440C steel). The Bladetech knife is on my list of folders to get.Should be a great folder from all I have read about them.

I have both the MouseI and MouseII. Great design, FF, and feel on both knives. I like the Flat grind on the Bladetech, but really enjoy the VG-10 on the Spyderco.

Blade-tech makes great stuff, I'd buy one of their knives again. In fact I can't wait to get the new small Bladetech, can't remember it's name though and it's not on the site yet.

I had a BT Wegner for a while, and I can say it's the slickest folder I've ever used. Fit and finish were outstanding. I didn't care for the flat grind on it as well as I thought I would, simply because it didn't go high enough, leaving the edge too thick for really precise cutting. It did make for an incredibly strong edge, though, and would shave, it's just that I prefer very thin blades. Merely a personal preference. The lockup and construction, though, were as good as anything I've seen on a Spyderco. In fact, the only folding knives liked the feel of better were the Spyderco Ocelot (another Wegner design), the Lone Wolf Loveless Drop Point (the most perfect folder ever devised, IMO), and the CRK Sebenza.

I've had a Spyderco Wegner Jr. and the Spyderco Mouse for a while now and they are both among my favorite knives. I recently bought a Mouse-Lite to use as an EDC that I wouldn't have to worry about loaning out (or losing) and it's turned out to be a very good little knife. Small enough not to scare people but big enough to handle every day chores. It's not as smooth as my other Wegners but the fit, finish, and price are very decent, and the 440C blade holds an edge quite well.

I had the S30V Mouse, wife carries it now. I'll have to find another or try the Mouse-lite. I gave the Pro-Hunter to a buddy that is an Elk slayer and he loves the knife for the function, fit and finish. Easy to tell the designer is a hunter. Hard to beat Blade-Tech's service too.

Hey folks - where's the best place to buy a Blad-Tech Mouse 2 in G10?

They don't seem to be widely available on the internet. At Blade West, the Blade Tech guys (nice guys!) recommended that I buy from someone other than Blade Tech if I wanted to spend less than MSRP.
