Sorry to start a thread just to ask this but I have not been able to find the specs for this knife.

So :
How thick is the blade ?
Blade length is about 4 inch yes ?

Do you recommend the pocket clip ? (I have a pouch I carry my regular two blade trapper in). I ask because it looks like the attachment point could be a bit weak with the pivot there and thinnish bolster.

I would enjoy the CV blade steel so in this what is your favorite handle scales.

Cool knife ! I was bummed because I thought they didn't make a full size single blade trapper, just the slim, and then I remembered this Trapperlock.

Is it about the same general handle size as the full size two blade trapper thickness wise? I know it is the same 4-1/8 length right ?

Closed length is 4 1/8". Blade length is just a hair shy of 3 1/4". It is on the same frame as the regular Trapper. The blade has the same shape, length, and thickness as the regular Case Trapper main clip blade. The only difference is that it is a saber + hollow ground blade to give a flat area for the thumbstud, versus a full hollow grind on the regular trapper. At the spine, it looks to be right at 2 mm thick (using a ruler).

If you like the Case Trapper, and wanted a single-blade version of that with a thumbstud and a liner lock, then look no further.

Mine measures 0.090" (2.28 mm) with my dial calipers, which is right in line with John's 2mm measurement above. I have it with the CV blade and the jigged chestnut bone, which is quite nice looking. It is thinner than the standard two-blade trapper as the standard one has two backsprings. The trapper lock has just one (which isn't really a spring per se, just a spacer.)

Yeah, I was just eyeballing it using a ruler while trying to keep a cat from walking on the keyboard while I was posting. :) I could see no difference between the clip blade on the Trapperlock and the clip blade on a regular Trapper, except for the blade grind, and one has a nail nick and the other has a thumbstud. Clearly they start out as the same blade blanks, it's just the finishing that is different.

Even though it is a single-blade knife, it is close to the thickness of the 2-blade trapper because of the spacer required to give room for the liner lock. It is about the thickness of a 1.5 blade Trapper.

Pocket clip versus no clip is up to you. It would ride perfectly in a sheath made for a trapper if that sheath had a flap and snap. Friction-fit, no. Being about 3/4 the thickness of a regular 2-blade Trapper, it would not stay in place. The clip seems sturdy enough to me. It is screwed into the solid nickel silver bolster with two screws.

The one I posted the pic of is a stainless steel in smooth chestnut bone, which has the pocket clip. I have only carried it a couple of times, in my back pocket, using the clip. It stayed in place. But since the clip itself is smooth metal and the knife is smooth bone, the chances of it coming loose in an active day are not zero. Maybe better suited for front pocket clipped carry.

If you want CV, it is available in Yellow Delrin (with or without clip), Chestnut Jigged bone (no clip), and Amber Jigged bone (with clip). All other options are SS.

You have that problem, too, eh? Cats and Case trappers - two things that make life worth living!

The feline in question. Observe the mouse and keyboard. That is one of her preferred locations. This is an earlier pic - today she was sitting there rather than lying there but you get the point.

jc57,

Glad you mentioned the friction fit. Hmmmm I might have to get another pouch for it. Good thinking.

I'm liking the blade thickness. I wish the handle was thicker just for the grip.

You're working hard for me ! Thanks so much !

Zuchus,

Yes ! That photo (and caliper work) helps a lot. Thanks !

I have a SS one. The clip seems to work well. I don't do a lot of jumping about though.
I am the kind of guy who removes a clip, if it feels bad in hand. I haven't had to consider this with the trapperlock, it is comfortable.

Good to know; thanks.
