Every time I want to upload a pic, I have to crop the picture like 5 times until it is a small enough file to be able to upload.

It really discourages me from uploading photos, so many times I will want to upload a photo but I just dont want to go through the headache.

ah, instead of that - you should just save as a .jpg with about 80% quality or 70%... the filesize will shrink to like 20% of the size in one easy operation

no need to crop or shrink the pic

I crop like hell and save to 1600x1600dpi @>400kb but I got Photoshop. That seems to be close to the max.
You can't just crop, you gotta decrease the DPI and the file size.
Sucks if you have to guess...

There are no size restrictions to upload photos to Imgur, or other image hosting websites.

Bladeforums pays for a certain amount of server space, allowing unlimited or much larger file sizes would eventually be prohibitively expensive and unnecessary in my opinion when image-hosting websites exist.

I searched this out. Spark Spark confirmed it.

The Xenforo forum software HAS the ability to SIMPLY resize uploaded images to smaller, without going through the troublesome rehost or resizing duties.

Shame on anyone who thinks it's easy. What's easy is to pay for a membership, add a photo--ANY SIZE photo--and it reduces and posts it the proper dimensional size and filesize within the Xenforo interface. Other XF forums are doing it.

All it takes is paying for and installing the latest Xenforo software. Then configuring it. Yes, it's a *bit* of work and money, but how CUSTOMER FRIENDLY that would be.

As a business owner, if my Service and Support page were 50% about posting photos problems I'd get that accomplished.

Showing images is near and dear to my heart. :D

Shrugging.....

You don't deal with the backend day to day with what goes on with the servers but trust me, it's not just "install" the latest software and the problem's solved.

This isn't a phone app. We've got a massive database here that has to get changed over for the new software and there's other backend issues as well, some of which aren't supported by the next version of Xenforo but are vital to how this site runs

I appreciate your concerns. I am aware of them. We're working on solutions.

I was using an app called Image Size to post photos from my ipad, but IOS 13 flushed it down the drain. I pulled out an old ipad running IOS 9.3.6, and it works just fine now.View attachment 1377903

Not sure why Image Size isn't working for you. I have it on multiple Apple devices running iOS 13, and it works fine. Delete and reinstall?

On the newer iPhones you have the option to upload different sizes: Large, Medium, Small.

If the photo file is too large, it will sometimes load rotated to fit. In this case, cropping or saving in a smaller ratio is necessary.

For Windows PC users, you can resize using Paint.
