After a discussion about wild boar hunting one day recently, I decided to see if I could forge one. I've had experience with forging socket handles so I thought that would be the way to go. Instead of welding this one close as I would for wood chisels, I decided to leave the gap open. Here are a few stages of the forging and then the finished Spear head.
I start by forging a pre form of the blade. A rough point and then forge a waist into it.

Next I forged the bevels. This draws out the length as well.

It gets cut off the bar and what will be the socket is forged out and spread into a fan shape. It has to be tapered too.

This is over simplifying it but the socket has to be shaped and the whole thing is straightened. I then forged a rim onto the end of the socket.

This is a hunting spear so I left it forged and put a belt finish on the blade bevels.

This is a great forging exercise.
