Boeshield T-9 Waterproof Lubricant. A friend of mine recommended this for tools stored in my garage, shed or in my vehicle. Has anyone here used it?

Here''s the product description: (Sounds like it would work)

Rust Prevention and Lubrication all in one Convenient Spray

Boeshield T-9 was designed by Boeing Aviation as a corrosion inhibitor for aircraft components. Through licensing, this product is available to consumers and businesses. Boeshield T-9 is a combination of solvents, lubricants and waxes designed for penetration, moisture displacement, lubrication, and protection.

Boeshield T-9 dries to a thin waxy film that clings to metal. Because it adheres to metal so well, it works directly on exposed metal surfaces. The product can be used in two ways to prevent rust.

A thicker coating works in places where additional protection is helpful such as on hinges, chains, undercarriages, cables and on items put into storage. To apply a thicker coating, just spray it on and leave it.

Thanks, Tom

Boeshield is the recommended lubricant for Feathercraft folding sea kayaks. You put it anywhere metal touches metal so the metal parts don't seize with salt water and sand. I used it for a while and then just went to using WD40. I have not noticed a difference. I also used both WD40 and Boeshield on my knives during kayak trips and I can't say I noticed a difference in rust protection but that's hardly scientific testing so take it FWIW.

I own a can of that, but have only used it on my bike chain and gears. I've not thought of using it on my axes and tools etc.. It's expensive stuff, worth it when storing tools, but I imagine it would wear off quickly during use(of an axe).

I use Boeshield T-9 and highly recommend it. I restore old machine and woodworking tools in addition to axes, and I've tried a LOT of rust preventives. Boeshield T-9 is spendy, but it is the best. Lay it on thick and it makes a nice waxy waterproof barrier. I have it on all my axes and lots of machine tool tables and stuff. WAYYY better than WD-40, grease-based rust preventives, etc.

It's also great for guns in storage!

It isn't a great lubricant, but the heavy waxish film it leaves behind will last as long as you're not using the tool. Definitely stops rust!

Thanks for all the great replies guys. Looks like I'll have to order some soon. I store many of my axes in the garage. Last fall it was really humid here. Lots of work with WD40 and steel wool to clean up the heads. It was a loosing battle.
This stuff is just what I need.

Thanks again, Tom

Well I ordered two T-9 Liquid bottles on Amazon. I read a review complaint about the spray cans not working. They died with at least half of the contents left in the can. So I ordered the liquid from Bike World USA, they had the best price and very reasonable shipping

Thanks guys, Tom

I've never had any trouble with the spray cans, and I've been through many of them. I guess some people have all the luck......

And, since you mentioned ordering it, I think it's worth mentioning that you might want to check around the hardware store and any bike shops that may be in your area. I can buy it several places here, including the local Ace hardware (and the 10 or 12 bike shops in this whopping town of 15,000!). Beats waiting on the brown truck to come by your house!

I've been testing this stuff out for the last few months. I've tried almost everything, and I have to say it is the best overall axe protectant I've used so far.

Thanks Bjp...I'll have to take a look around town for the spray cans. The spray sure would be easier to work with.

I've picked up some liquid bottles at Woodcraft when they have been on sale. They often has the spray can version on sale also, but I have only used the liquid version. I have had good results with it. It has a light and somewhat tacky residue after being applied and seems to stay on for a good while. There was a marine publication a few years back that compared corrosion inhibitor products with fresh and salt water exposure. I remember that Boeshield T-9 did very well but not in the top tier. I was impressed by that since it was also a wateproof lubricant where most of the other products in the test were strictly corrosion inhibitors and many had heavy residues. One of the top products was LPS-3 and another was CRC HD, but I have not tried either. That being said I only use the Boeshield T-9 on folding knives and use Sentry Solutions Marine Tuf-Cloth on axes and fixed blade knives.

Thanks for all the information guys. I just thought of another use for these corrosion/rust inhibitors. I have a collection of 35+ crosscut saws. About 8 of them are nice users. I have been storing these inside the house to protect them. Looks like I could move some of these to the garage if I protect them.

Thanks guys, Tom
