I drink my scotch with a beer chaser and have been told that this is a boiler maker. And yet I have seen people drop an entire shot glass full of whiskey or scotch into a glass of beer and have been told that this is a boiler maker. Finally I have seen a bartender pour a shot of alcohol into a beer and this is called a boiler maker.

Just wondering what you all call a boiler maker and do you enjoy this type of drink? I know Jerry enjoys JWB and Black Label. Do you drink them as a boiler maker Jerry? If so, what is your preferred method of consumption. Thanks. I think this is important information for us hogs to know so that we are not inept and foppish as we place our order at the bar. :)

A boiler maker is a mug of beer with a shot that is dropped into it and than you must drink it very fast......if you light the shot on fire and drop it in it is called a Dr. Pepper. I myself just like plain old beer but I have had my share of Flaming Dr. Peppers and Boiler Makers (college days), they tend to get you a little tipsy quickly or maybee cause I would do many many of them.

Interesting Amy, I've never heard of that one. A flaming shot into a brewski. It sounds almost poetic. I may try that when my wife is not around so she doesn't think I'm a flaming nut! :D

Since I'm from Indiana, home of the Purdue Boilermakers, I can attest that Amy is correct about the drink. Seen LOTS of 'em downed (I can't stand the thought of diluting a good whiskey myself though)

If you like that try a Bomb. take a shot of jagermeister and drop it in a mug of Red Bull.
Now how can you go wrong with caffeine and alcohol.. :D ...

Amy, Actually a Dr Pepper is a mug o beer with a splash of coke then ya drop a shot of Amareto in. It tasts exactly like Dr Pepper soda:thumbup:

As a former Purdue Boilermaker, I can confirm that a true Boilermaker is a shot of whiskey (still in the shot glass) dropped into a mug of beer, which is then slammed down quickly.

Like G19G26, I prefer my whiskey (Wild Turkey) undiluted, with a frosty mug of beer or a coke as a chaser.

Yep, Boilermaker is a whiskey shot dropped in beer. Now, we can do MUCH better than that... Yaeger bombs are an "Old Faithful" when the night needs a little kick to get going. Irish Car Bombs would be my favorite though. Take a pint glass fill it a bit over half way with Guinness, let it settle, take a very full shot glass of Bailey's and drop it in. CHUG. Tastes like Chocolate milk, but with ten times the calories. I need to figure out an Absinthe bomb... Maybe Absinthe and pine sol?
