I guess it's time to officially state Boker USAs legal position
on automatic (switchblade) knives.

Due to import laws, it is illegal for us to import automatic knives.
It is against Federal law for us to bring them in, or have parts for them.
Also, the Top Locks and Magnum lines that are button locks are brought in non-automatic. It is also against State law here in Colorado for us to
have them, or work on them.

On the consumers end, it is against Federal law to transport them across state lines, or use the postal service to mail them.

I hate to say it, but our hands are tied as far as these knives go.
Thanks,
TJT

Is there an address else where to order a replacement back spring for a model 715. It is a beautiful knife to be left is such shape. Thanks

Unfortunately, no. There is no way to get any parts
in country, from Boker. I have tried a couple times.
I know Knife Kits.com carries some springs, and such, you might try them.
According to the Customs Dept., all parts for, or any automatic knives will
be confiscated..
Thanks, TJT

Aloha TJT,

Man that sucks! not even parts? I got a co-worker who has a Magnum Button lock recurve that's been 'converted". Pretty slick, and I have seen these advertised in catalogs: SouthSummit IIRC...

God bless

Hello, I live in Arizona and there are no laws regarding auto knives here, why… we all carry pistols anyway. ;)

I’ve been buying the Magnums as non-autos and converting them for local sale only. We’re missing a few screws and may be needing a couple more in the future. Is there some way to order, say 100 of the black ones for replacement?

Are all these magnums coming into the states just missing the springs? I keep hearing different things from different people.

Say someone was not up on knives a couple of years ago and bought a Boker speed lock (Automatic) with case in Italy. Is that person in violation of the law? How much is it worth? Can he sell the knife legally?
Porky

In Virginia it is legal to own, but not carry switchblades. I don't know about Ohio. If your friend attempts to sell this knife, he should be aware that it is illegal to mail a switchblade through the U.S. mail. That said, you can find switchblades for sale on ebay from time to time.

Kind of a dead horse, but I have two of the Boker magnums. I bought a spring on ebay (they are always available). Truth be told, I never even took it out of it's envelope. These Bokers are so slick, I guarrantee you that I can flick my blade out faster than the mediocre springs can. These have to be the best low bucks knives out there. The blades could be harder, but for twenty bucks, 420 ain't all that bad! I still see $200.00 knives utilizing the same stuff.

In short, does anyone know of a reputable source for boker springs and parts? It looks like Knife Kits.com has a great selection, but I am not a knife smith. Second question would be, does anyone know of a site that either shows the schematics and or diagrams on the assembly of the springs in the knives? Or is this just a very simple wrench out, place, fit, and place back together? I have both autos and non-auto's which I would like to upgrade. Any advice, or links to some helpful sites would be appreciated!

By the way, ever since I bought my first Boker, I have been a big fan. Great knife at an excellent price. Some of my bokers I actually prefer over some of my benchmade's which were 100's more in price.

I believe its the same here in Connecticut.

The law is kind of open to interpretation ( At least that is what most of the bigger makers seem to think). There seems to be a difference between a switchblade, or automatic opener, and an assisted opener. My thoughts are that if you push a button, and the knife then opens on it's own, it's an auto. If you have to manually start the blade on it's course, then it's an assisted opener. I'm sure there are many guys on this forum who are better versed with the laws of the land. Maybe some of you can chime in, and throw some knowledge at us.

Mike

Mike is correct in his summation.
If you push a button, it is an automatic, no matter if it comes out the front, or the side.

And for the record, we do not make any assisted openers, either.
Although I wish we did...

Well, just to add to the subject since my last post. There are numerous sites with springs for Boker knives sold within the US. As well, there are just as many sites within the US selling auto converted Boker knives. So in short, if you have a Boker push button Magnum, Kal., or the like, just order the corresponding spring and the install is a cinch.

I posted a while ago, stating that I did buy one of those springs. I finally installed it in one of my magnums. I was right. I can open the knife at least as fast as the spring can. My guess is, it would be better served to throw the spring in the smaller magnums. Actually, I'll probably put it in my Kalashnikov, as it is much lighter, and won't gravitationally open, anyway. Whitedogg is right, the install couldn't be any easier.
TJT, you folks sell some awesome products, and the price is right.

I am a bit confused. Boker automatic knives are available all over the web. How are their no parts available for them? How could they be so available for sale in the US if they are not imported?

From what little I know of the federal switchblade laws you guys have, it's illegal to import them, but possession != importing, and because of that you can have some interesting situations involving no proof of you importing it.

Terry, if I shouldn't have said that, feel free to delete it.
