Boker Knives, or 'The Chinese Connection'

I'm beginning to get a little concerned with my ebay shopping for Boker knives, with the increasing realization that I could mistakenly be buying a Chinese product thinking it the real-deal German or Boker USA knife. I believe I've read that the Boker Magnum and Boker Plus+ knives are made in China. Is this correct? I've also come across an advisory posted by an ebay seller, attached to his auction for a "BOKER KNIFE 110726 TRADITIIONAL SERIES JIGGED BONE 3 BLADE STOCKMAN NEW IN BOX" which reads;

Stockman
Brown Jigged Bone Handles
Stainless Steel

Tree shield on front side of handle that reads Germany
Etched Tree Brand on blade
Manufacturer Boker-Germany is all these say
I checked with gthe factory because of the price and they told me theses were assembled in Germany of imported parts (China)
Be careful there are alot of people selling these a German but all the traditional series that has a 700 model number are made with Chinese parts.

I'm still in basic learning mode. Any additional information or discussion on the subject of how to spot the Chinese knives, or how to be sure of the country of manufacture would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Boker Plus and Magnum are made in China, all of them.To my knowledge no Boker knives are made in the USA.If its not China its Germany.Although there are a few fixed blades made by a manufacturer out of Argentina. Its pretty easy to spot the Boker fakes as they look like cheap gas station or swap meet knives. If not 100% sure just go to the Boker site and download their latest catalog.Hope this helps.

Are all of your knives manufactured in Germany?
No. Boker USA, Inc. carries several different brand names, which are manufactured in various parts of the world. Please refer to the list below:

Boker knives: Solingen, Germany
Boker Arbolito knives: Argentina
Boker Plus knives: Taiwan and China (except model 02BO012, made in the USA)
Cinch knives by Boker: Solingen, Germany (except model 11CI403Y, made in Argentina)
Magnum knives: Taiwan and China

As for spotting chinese fakes, check the article number, usually something like 0XBOXXX.
If your dealer cannot provide you with that number, its probably a fake

Thanks, guys. Aside from this information provided, what about the claim by the ebayer (quoted above) that some of the knives are marked 'Germany', but the knife is assembled in Germany with Chinese made parts? True/False?

AC50, That is 100% correct. They do assemble certain knives in Germany but the the parts are from China. I have owned a few and my local knife dealer was the one who told me about it. I still have one. I would have to open my knife role and look to make sure they are "stamped" Germany. I honestly do not recall. I do however know that the box they come in does say Germany(just dug it out), as I still have the box. They are black with a magnetic strip to hold them closed. Our local dealer has literally hundreds of them. I would have to ask him what markings let the buyer know it is made of China parts. I have noticed that most of the Boker collectors in my neck of the woods can tell the china parts/assembled in Germany Bokers without even opening the blade, and I am not talking about Boker Magnums or Boker Plus. If it were not so late I would dig out the knife to see if it had the Germany stamp. Shoot me an email and remind me and I will look for you after I get some sleep.

Update. Well of course after I hit send I had to dig it out. Anyway, the tang is not stamped with any country of origin. However, the emblem on the front scale of the knife pictures the tree brand logo and right under it the word Germany. As I stated earlier, the box says Germany also. I also wanted to clarify that just because they make certain models this way, it does not mean that all of one certain model is China parts/Germany assembled across the board. For example, my congress has no country stamp on the tang but a TRUE German Boker would. But to answer you question, the Ebay seller was 100% correct.

I just received an Boker TS Copperhead with smooth red bone (#110724). It came in a large black display box. The UPC sticker says "Made in China". "Tree Brand" on the blade. "High carbon Stainless Steel" on the tang. "Boker" on the second tang. My impression is that TS stands for "Traditional Series" ie MADE IN CHINA. Blades are excessively tight
