I've seen very few reviews about Boker Optima with interchangeable blades. Most of what people have said are that they are solid, high quality knives but I'm wondering specifically about blade side play on this knife. Also I've heard mentioned that some thought the blade was too thick. Anyone here have / had one of these and can shed some light on this?

Thanks

New member, sad to see I'm the only reply on this thread.

The Optima is a solid, well made knife. Thick and heavy, maybe too heavy for EDC. I think the blade is 4mm thick. No side play at all with the two blades I have. Sorry to say, it doesn't get much use due to the weight. Maybe with a belt clip, it might see more use.

The Optimas are a true classic in our product line. We sell them for years.
The blades a famous for their thick blades for heavy duty jobs. Ok, no slicer for Serrano ham, but still functional :-)

There will come a Boker Plus Optima... stay tuned

I'm looking at buying an Optima but was concerned that the website only states that the steel material is Solingen Stainless Steel. I've read that it is made of 420HC instead of 440C. Why was 420 chosen for this knife model?

Both my blades are 440C. Purchased in '06. I don't know what they use now, sorry I coudn't be more help.

The Boker Plus Optima has an AUS-8 blade. I've seen the interchangeable delrin model listed as having Soligen steel and sometimes listed as having 440-C. The stag handled model is 440-C.
