Boker Plus MA-2 Review
I received a Boker Plus MA-2 neck knife as part of a pass around here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...a-Perrin-Tri-Folder-or-Boker-MA-2-pass-around. The MSRP is $29.95 and it retails at our favorite online stores for about $20.
The Chinese made blade is made of 440C stainless and coated in a bronze-colored titanium paint. The chisel-ground, plain-edge blade is 2 1/2" long. The knife is 5 1/8" long overall. The MA-2 weighs 1.6 oz. At 5/32" thick, the knife is one of the thicker neck knives you'll find, but what really sets it apart is the stout edge grind and tip. It is more like an axe or survival knife than an EDC slicer. Think sharpened prybar.
The Boker Plus MA-2 comes with a well-designed fiber-reinforced nylon (FRN) sheath with belt clip. The sheath is minimalist, with just enough FRN to cover the cutting edge and keep the knife securely in place. It really works well and the sheath is one of the best designs I've seen in a neck knife.
The design by Austrian Miltner Adams is interesting. The skeleton frame has holes large enough to function as a knuckle duster if your fingers are small enough. Boker markets the holes as providing "...extraordinary user safety" and states: "With its Top Grip construction, this knife is 100% safe in your hand, in any situation. The handle design allows the user to open their hand in order to grab or hold another object, without the risk of losing the knife. An extremely compact piece, ideal for a variety of tasks."
After a day of carry, I can say the Boker Plus MA-2 isn't a bad knife for $20, but it wouldn't be my choice for EDC. It is more of a prybar than a slicer and a little too small for my large hands. I'll carry it a few days more and report back. Thanks to TheAznInvazn for loaning me his knife.
