Boker Plus Urban Trapper Old vs New

Looking to pull the trigger on a Boker Plus Urban Trapper. After looking through some reviews on the internet, it appears there are 2 versions (older version with polished blade and hollowed titanium handle & newer versions with handle scales and satin blade). When I first saw it, I fell in love with the look of the titanium handle (less so the polished blade), but after reviews it appears that that version has a less reliable flipper and potentially more blade play? Also appears to be differences between pocket clips (old model rides deeper, but newer model has a nicer overall clip).

So, my questions, for those who have owned or handled both: 1) Are there any additional updates that I missed that should make me go for the newer model? 2) Is blade play that significantly different between the 2 models? 3) Your overall preference if you purchased both? 4) etc?

Thanks in advance!

After some research, seems like v.2. is the way to go. Managed to find some additional information from a thread posted a year ago here.

Now the only question is: G10 or Cocobolo? Do I have to worry about shrinkage etc with the coco? I prefer that look, but G10 might be a bit more rugged and wear-resistant?

Hi Deinos, I just recently purchased the all titanium version. From comparing it to what others have online, I can say mine looks to have a larger flipper tab of the scaled version. I am not sure when Boker instituted this change, but it makes sense not to be producing two different blades for the different versions of the same knife. Mine also has the newer pocket clip. My knife also has no play in the blade. I recommend buying which ever version speaks to you.

There's a limited run Boker Plus Urban Trapper for sale right now that offers S35VN steel and G10 handles over titanium liners. The titanium is Anodized blue and the blade is blackwashed. It's really a neat version of a knife that I've thought about picking up for a long time, so I finally pulled the plug and picked up an Urban Trapper.

Do a Google search for urban trapper s35vn and it should show up.
Since they aren't supporting members, we can't link it.

It was a run of 1,000 pieces, and it looks like their about 2/3 the way through their stock (if their bar/gauge is accurate).

It's kind of amazing that they're selling as fast as they are, but it really is a cool version of this knife for a great price. If anyone wants to pm me, I'll be happy to reply privately.

I have both the old and new versions.

You've already noted the differences: the polished vs. satin blade (I think the polished looks nicer), the slightly different pocket clip (both work fine), and the larger flipper tab on the new version (which makes it easier to operate).

Neither of mine has any noticeable blade play.
