Anybody have one of these Boker PLus XS models. Only a couple of YouTube vid's and they show a knife that's appears to be kind of difficult to open one handed. Possibly a "gritty" feel...? If anyone owns one please give me your thoughts.
Thanks

I bought one for no good reason, as I don't expect to be traveling to the UK, or anywhere else that a non-lock back 3" or less cutting edge is the legal requirement, but for some reason just wanted to have one "in reserve" anyway.

Build quality is very good, sharp as can imagine, very firm "lockup", excellent grip, feels very good in hand when open. Wickedly nice blade shape.

But yes, it takes quite a bit of force to open one handed, and beyond that, you have to be very forceful and confident doing it. If you don't get it halfway open, to the 90 degree position where it first catches, it WILL snap back toward closed position and WILL cut you if any of your meat is over the slot. Ask me how I know.

It takes some practice, but the practice is not without danger. Seriously.

And I don't find it "gritty", just tight. Maybe some can with practice, but I don't think I will ever be able to flick it open in one swift continual motion, and I don't have weenie hand strength.

And no, loosening pivot didn't really help, even to point of having horizontal play when open, nor did lubing pivot. It's all in the function of the slipjoint springs apparently. Makes it safer to use when open while still maintaining status of "slipjoint", but a lightening fast deployment just ain't in the cards, seems.

Thanks OS! Your information is just what I was hoping for and is much appreciated. I did order this knife and I'm now awaiting delivery. With what little I've been able to ferret out, and especially with your first hand information, I think I pretty much know what to expect.
If you like this shape of this knife, try the Compliance, it's quite unique and extaordinary. Two hand opening BUT SMOOTH and SOLID frame lock.

Got it and I am Impressed! It is VERY difficult to open one handed with the thumbstud. Spring is just TOO strong. I removed the thumbstub and aesthetically, it's more eye pleasing now that I've made it a dedicated two handed opener. Looks (blade shape) is killer..!! and very sharp. Combination glossy and matte blade finish is really nice. Great choil, ergonomics very secure and comfortable. You CAN close it with one hand. Overall It earns 4 out of 5 stars. If you want a slip joint that looks cool, is inexpensive and fun to carry you won't be sorry. I still say check out the Compliance.... It is one of the more superior little blades out there.

Yeah, thanks for your impressions, pretty much mine.

I really got it so that I COULD open it with one hand and still be in compliance with any restrictive areas I might need to frequent, although the odds of that have actually diminished since I bought it. Admittedly, was mostly just so I could own another interesting knife with an unusual design, being a knife junkie in general.

And with practice, I find that I safely can get it open one-handed, though not of course super quickly. Really it's a two part movement, to get it to 90 degree hold position, then on to all the way open. I find it's safest to grab the top of knife with curled index finger to get it to the first position, much better leverage than keeping all fingers on handle -- that's when you risk the snap back cut if you fail to get it to the 90 degree hold step.

I'm now looking at the Spyderco UKPK with the GIN 1 steel in drop point version.
Any thoughts...?

Thought about getting a UKPK of some sort, but even the cheapest one was a little too pricey for me, considering this was mostly just a "in case" purchase.

If I knew I was going to UK or Europe in general, or even NYC with the current knife witch hunt that's underway there now, I wouldn't think same way. But it's only a legal matter that led me to these in the first place -- otherwise I myself see no reason to have a non-locking blade on a single blade folder of any size.

Received mine yesterday, this is one heck of a slip joint! I removed the thumb stud and open it like a traditional slippy.
The back spring is very strong, so much so, that if a fella didn't know, you'd think it was a locker.
I have 4 UKPK's which I love, but I'm thinking they will now have to take there turn. :p
Great knife!!

Thanks for your impressions DC50. We all seem to be in agreement. And I'll tell ya, the more i carry this knife the more i dig it. It's actually fun to carry and open. Love the "snap" of the spring. Let me know when y'all get that Boker Plus Compliance. A remarkable blade!
