Do we have any other hunters in here? Has anybody used any of these? I am looking at the lockback, Skinner, and plain Fixed. I would love to hear some feedback.

I hunt, but I use my mini BC more for everyday tasks. Fixed blades do the dirty work, though I know the BC could do the job in a pinch. Been looking at the BC fixed blades expressively for hunting, as I think they would be great.

I've been very impressed by the edge retention and stain resistance of BM's D2. The ergos of the knife are outstanding in my opinion. I believe it to be BM's most underrated folder, and the pinnacle of BM's engineering with the Axis lock. That's just me though. :)

I am inclined to agree, so much noise about custom handles for grips... Benchmade produces the 15020 and it seems to not garner any attention.

I too like the Bone Collector line myself. The mini's in particular as I prefer a smaller EDC. I would rather have the 154 steel as opposed to the D2, but there isn't anything wrong with it. It's just my own paranoia concerning rust. This line does seem to fly under the radar though. They are a great knife.

L2Bravo - if you do purchase a fixed blade version could you post your impressions? I've been looking at those too for deer season.

Not that it applies to the op, but I was looking at my Bone Collector just before posting, and my mini presidio, and it looks as though the blades and maybe the grips would be interchangeable. Not 100% sure though. Not really sure why anyone would do that. I was just looking. :)

Fully interchangeable, both sizes. Lotta guys favor the 520/525 blades, w/ the BC scales. Full size BC unnecessarily thick and heavy tho, IMO.

I love BM's D2!

Im actually thinking about getting a "set" of the three fixed, for chopping my deer up. The skinner, the caper, and the larger fixed. It would be pretty cool, if I could find a place to make a custom sheath to hold em all.

Ryxlyx - Have you noticed any issues with rust on the D2 blades? Like from fingerprints, that kinda stuff. Do you show it the same care as 154CM, or do you wipe it own more frequently?

Thanks!

Joe

I haven't had rust issue w/ D2, I do tho make a point of keeping blades dry. Friend of mine tho (humid midwest summer) had a D2 blade tarnish a bit, just from being in his pocket during a camping trip during hot weather.

The handle is too thick to access the opening hole. Not a fan at all.

I agree. I don't hunt, but my 15030 is my most often carried folder for everyday use. I've gone to small FBs for EDC but when I carry a folder with with 'em, it's most often the mini-BC. No problems with the steel's edge holding, no problems with corrosion or staining, it's just a fine carry tool. I like BM's D2 and I prefer spear points for most uses. It fits in very well with my Northstar EDC FB. When I want a larger folder with a blade similar to the BC though, I use my Rift. The large BC folders tend to be too thick and heavy for my taste in a folder.
