Saw a Boone and Crockett 110 at Dicks Sporting Goods, whats the deal? 420HC? Good for a user, or keep in the collection drawer?

Hi Silenthunter,

Which one? There are 3 different B&C 110's in the series.
1) "Hunt Fair Chase" on the blade, Redwood Burl with Brass bolster.
2) "Conservation Success" on the blade, Box Elder burlwood with barss bolster.
3) "National Parks" on the blade, Maple burlwood with brass bolster.

Each of them has a bronze B&C medallion inset in the wood handle, 420HC steel, limited to 500 of each model. If you buy one it would be up to you if it's a user or collectors drawer knife.

The way I look at it for what ever that's worth.

If I want a user, I would buy a plain every day 110 and I wouldn't worry much about nick, dings, or losing it, etc.. If I buy a special like the B&C's it's just to look at, admire and fondle. If I actually used it (not just carried), I'd be worried everytime about the chance of messing it up.

Which one has Don Johnson and Phillip Michael Thomas on the grip???

agreed ! plain jane's are the users!!
fancy is to look at or have as a keep sake of some event
now some folks will use fancy and gold etch knives..
and while most do so to impress someb one
some do so because they want a user that is also a looker..
if you like sweet looking knives and not worried of lost value
by all means use a fancy!!!..
i mean do you have a plain 29.95 watch or a Rolex?
both keep good time...

Not for me, at least in one case. I had the custom shop make me a knife this year after my dog died. He was by far the best dog I've ever had and I wanted a knife inscribed with his name and nicknames that would go with me in the outdoors every day as my dog did. Look at this dog and tell me if there is anything but sambar stag for him? And S30V. Only the best. :)

Now, I admit that soon I'll have then make another, a looker/backup. Or maybe a looker and a backup (2 more? ) LOL

Dress up carry....I sometimes like to carry a classy/rare/collectible Buck when I go out.Think of them like clothes, sometimes dressy sometimes jeans.Size matters too..A 532 or a 501 instead of a 110.Guns is a good comparison too.A 44 mag is a effective powerful sidearm but a 9mm might getter done..
