I'm going to Boston for a few days and want to know what's kosher to bring with me. What can I carry? Clipped to pocket or fully concealed? Etc.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Any knife carried must have a blade no more than 2.5 inches long. Both state and city law do not distinguish between open and concealed carry; all carry is regulated the same, and therefore fully concealed carry is recommended. If your knife is large than 2.5", fully concealed carry is a 99.997% change of never being caught in the first place.

There are exceptions for hunting, fishing, employment, recreational and culinary activity so long as knives are normally used for them, but you have actively doing them or directly en route to or from. There is also exceptions for transportation to or from place of purchase or repair so long as it's packaged up to prevent easy access. In other words, normal EDC knife carry does not fall within this exception.

Here is a link to the official statute.

2.5 inch technically. Most people ignore it and the cops don't break out a tape measure. The way the cops interpret it is that the blade can be wider than your palm. As long as you don't draw attention you could get away with about anything. Long as ur not a felon the only thing you risk is losing the knife and a $50 fine

Is this true in the sorrounding areas as well? We will be staying in Cambridge?

IDK about cambridge but non of the other town around boston have the limit unless they are considered part of boston. Im in brookline and were surrounded on 3 sides by boston and 1 by newton. Just keep it smaller than your palm and yowl be fine. Or don't and just don't give the cops a reason to give u a hard time. The only person i know who ever had their knife taken by the cops was bigger than his palm and they found it after a drug sting. It was less than an oz so he got the $50 weed fine and just got cited for the knife. The cop didn't even give him the fine for it.

Arrest, CORI criminal record in MA and maximum $300 fine. Keep the blade well-concealed in Boston and Cambridge, as well as all of the North Shore cities and towns (Revere, Beverly, Salem, Lynn and Swampscott).
